“Excellent exhibitions in a handsome building”
Reviewed 5 November 2013

Why are Russians such great artists -- think of dance, literature or music? I don't know, but they are and their visual art is no exception. I was here for the "Women in Painting" exhibit and was delighted. The work is displayed to perfection in this gracefully converted church. I will never visit the Twin Cities without returning.

The building is beautiful and the art captivating with good explanatory captions. Worth a visit for the gift shop alone.

“Small But Wonderful”
Reviewed 16 October 2013

Love small "niche" museums that are not overwhelming but well done. Our visit had a wonderful exhibit of female Russian artists, both contemporary and historic. Downstairs was a photographic exhibit of "shetl" life. Really got a taste of old Russia before the revolution.

“This museum never disappoints”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

We visit this museum on every trip to Minneapolis. The exhibitions change regularly, and always give us a visual feast. Well lighted, well displayed.... but it is their choice of paintings that makes every visit worth it.

“Who cares...”
Reviewed 12 October 2013

... about the Russian art. The place is not conveniently located and it can be easily mistaken for a residential home. It's filled with kitschy representations of arts and crafts from Russia. Honestly, I don't know of any good art from Russia so I wouldn't waste my time here.

Thanks so much for coming! If you are looking to learn about "good" Russian artists, I recommend that you check out artists like Korzhev, Kandinsky, Petrov-Vodkin, Serov, Tatlin, Rodchenko, Maleevich, Goncharova, Fechin, Repin and others. Russia boasts some of the most instantly recognizable artists the world has ever produced. It would be a real shame to not know anything about them – or worse – generalize them. Thanks again!
