Housed in a beautifully renovated historic building, the Museum’s multi-level galleries provide a tranquil and intimate setting for TMORA’s exhibitions and educational events. Now on view: Women in Soviet Art: focusing on the representation and self-representation of women in Soviet art, this exhibition explores the roles and perspectives of women under the Soviet system from the 1950s–1980s.Jewish Life in the Russian Empire: Exhibited for the first time in 1867 at the seminal ethnographic exhibit in Moscow, the photographs depict a unique record of Jewish life in Tsarist Russia. It tells the story of Jewish communities within the Pale of Settlement, a region where permanent residency of Jewish peoples was allowed. “Very, very tiny and only paintings”

Not at all what I was expecting. Very, very small museum. This museum consists of 3 floors, but each floor is essentially one small room, and almost all paintings. If you are hoping for anything other than paintings, you won't find it here. Also, no photography allowed. We saw it all in 20 minutes. I don't understand all the reviews raving about this place.

“Nothing else like it in the area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 June 2014

Set up in a converted church, experiencing the architecture is often just as powerful as experiencing the art. For a $7-8 fee you get to see works of the Russian masters as well as the art of religious and folk iconography. It's worth a revisit - exhibits change often. If you can, attend a museum party - more time to look at the art and more chances to talk to individual experts about them.

“Wonderfully accessible art museum.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014

TMORA is a lovely setting highlighting Russian art and culture. We have been there many times and each time are impressed on how beautifully the exhibit is designed. The museum consists of 3 floors. The main exhibit is usually showcased on the 1st and 2nd floors with a secondary exhibit in the lower level. The lighting is exceptional and the overall ambiance is serene and conducive for losing oneself in the art.

“So accessible and richly displayed”

Grateful to the founder of this museum for bringing slices of the Russian "cake" for our close review here in Minnesota. This is a beautifully-curated "jewel" set here in south Minneapolis! The re-purposing of the previous congregational church building/structure is masterfully executed; art itself.

“very good, small museum”

This is a small museum, but its collection is highly focused and very informative. It is a little bit out of the downtown area, but is very conveniently located off I-35.
