I love the skyways as a great way to get from one place to another. It also gives us a second floor of shops, restaurants and etc. It is very welcome in the winter months as you have no need to go outside.

I understand the necessity for the skyway, when its 10* below zero most months, however the art of negotiating the system eludes me!! I was armed with a skyway map and determination this time to conquer Nicollet Mall, but once again fled to the closest exit to breath fresh air and sweet freedom! When I passed the same Tea Shop 3 times, I panicked! Maybe yellow stripes on the floor or ceilings with lots of arrows and giant signs would help!

The skyway system is an important way to get to work without getting wet. Parking in Minneapolis is difficult to find, and the best way is often using the skyway system. Sure comes in use when wearing a loose skirt on a windy day! Many businesses choose to open satellite branches here. I worked in this environment for ten years and relied upon it for lunch as well as recreation and work.

I enjoy walking the skyway system for hours, especially during Winter. There are myriad restaurants along the skyway for when you get hungry.

Part of the experience of a large city is to walk outside and see the architecture and the local inhabitants, not to mention the tourists. So you get a totally different feel for the city if you walk thru the skyway instead on down the street. Cleaner, seems safer, more business people, sterile, good place to window shop. Alas, the upper end store Neiman Marcus is no more, and Saks is an outlet store. Dayton's has been downgraded since Target Corp. merged with Marshall Fields and then sold out to Macy's. When I work downtown it is convenient to walk thru the skyway as there are multiple choices for lunch. Otherwise I prefer to walk on the street, like a real Minnesotan. Foot patrols by the Minneapolis PD might make the visitors feel safe, but I haven't had a problem. Enjoy the great out of doors. Stop at La Belle Crepe on Nicollet Mall, get a crepe, sit outside and watch the world go by. It never is too hot or too cold, Goldilocks!
