I grew up in Minnesota and have never tried Lutefisk. The idea of my first experience being in a church basement was tempting but when I found out Jax serves it up during the month of December, I thought I should give it a try. This was my first trip to Jax and I must say that I was really impressed, everyone was very well dressed, collard shirts or sport coats were the norm. It has that vibe somewhere in between an old school supper club and a premiere steak house. The place was packed on a Saturday night, and the pianist serenaded us with Christmas music. I had the stuffed mushrooms(I prefer them without the Crab but they were done very well) a serving of Lutefisk which was surprisingly alright. The taste was fine to non existent. The texture is the tough part... Gelatinous. It doesn't seem right. I am not a fan of Salmon or real fishy fish and this did not have any of those overtones. It came with Broccoli and boiled potatoes, some clarified butter and horseradish sauce(the savior). I don't feel a need to try it again, but I must say Jax made it an OK experience and I definitely will be back to try a steak.
