Thorns Farm Self-contained B&B
Reviewed 6 November 2013

WOW!!! I stayed here last weekend for a visit to Arena UK equestrian centre. The location is fantastic, it's so nice and queit and secluded at Thorns Farm, but also you are not very far away from Grantham for food and pubs etc. The property is extremley well appointed, the rooms are clean, modern and full of charachter, and the Kitchenette is a real nice touch. I will most defintley be using thorn farm again if ever visiting this area of the country.

After trawling traditional b&b's that were reasonably priced yet 'something special' I came across Thorns Farm and it ticked all of our boxes.
I was planning an anniversary trip for me and my husband for which I wanted something a little different...Thorns Farm fitted the bill.
We had no problem finding it after reading they're only accessible via the A1.
We were greeted on arrival by the wonderful Grethe, kind polite and genuine!!
We stayed in 'The old pig sty' and as soon as the door opened I knew we'd love it!!
Greatly renovated, with exposed beams and stonework giving it such character.

Everything you'd ever need and more in a well appointed, highly finished modern apartment. The kitchen was packed with anything you may need if cooking, even things you may think would not be supplied.
The bathroom was immaculately clean (as were all areas actually) with soft towels and a lovely hot shower.
The sleeping / sitting area didn't disappoint either. It was great to find in a drawer information on places we may want to visit, local attractions, eateries, pubs etc.
On our second day we decided to walk the grounds, we found the fishing lake, ambled through the wood where we came across an abundance of wildlife then just watched the horses and highland cattle as the sun set. A great way to work up an appetite.

We were more than pleased with everything at Thorns Farm though felt 2 nights wasn't enough to soak it all in.
If we're ever planning to revisit Grantham I wouldn't stay anywhere else plus I'll definitely be recommending this accommodation to friends (I've already started).

Room Tip: Pack you wellies or walking boots. Set an alarm as it's so easy to sleep in, despite having go...

We are back in Grantham and staying at our favorite bed and breakfast. The only difference is the weather is lovely and warm as is the welcome at this unique place. It is hard to think of Thorns Farm as a B&B. It is more like a home away from home. It is totally self contained, with a spacious en-suite shower room and a beautify appointed kitchenette. The décor is superb, and the beds comfortable. We stayed a month this time and really enjoyed being in the country yet so close to town. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

i work away from time to time and have stayed in a lot of bed and breakfasts. this is by far the best place i have ever stayed. we were there for ten days and couldnt have been in a better place. everything has been thought of you have a comfortable bed some rooms have chairs others have a couch. there is a kitchen, loads of space and a great bathroom. this is more like a flat than a b and b. the cooker hob and microwave mean you can spend actually have proper meals. i dont think i have come across a more well thought out place to stay. small touches like salt and pepper orange juice in the fridge butter toaster and bread. simply amazing just make sure you follow the owners advice and come from the a1 side the farm road isnt the best

This is the most enchanting B&B we have ever stayed in. Even though we stayed in very cold and snowy weather we were very warm and comfortable. We stayed in a double and the room was very spacious and well equipped. It was nice to have the lovely kitchen so we did not have to go out to dinner every night. The bathroom was quite spacious with a great shower and plenty of hot water with lots of large fluffy towels. The twin beds were extremely comfortable. Luckily, the snow melted quickly and we had a very nice view of the beautiful countryside with many farm animals. It's an easy few minutes into Grantham from here.We plan on coming back for another month in the summer
I would recommend this B&B to everyone. I would especially like to thank our hosts, Grethe and Ove for making our stay so pleasant.

If you like me are fed up with staying in traditional B&B’s and hotels when travelling around the country, then look no further than Thorns Farm near Grantham. It is a little gem. You turn off the A1 and forget it is there when you see the woodlands, ponds and fields with grazing horses and highland cattle. I stayed in the single room, which was more like a studio flat. It was very spacious, warm, peaceful and with stunning views over the owners garden and pond. The en-suite shower was very modern and the self-catering facilities meant that I didn’t have to go out to eat in the evenings. The continental breakfast was provided for me so I could help myself. Sadly I stayed in the winter, so I was unable to enjoy a glass of wine in the outside courtyard in the evening – hopefully next time. Thank you.
