If you are in the mood and looking for unique art from artists from around the region, check out the Rourke Gallery. There is a variety of pieces shown in an unique setting, complete with the quiet of time seeming to not be a factor. We need more quiet in our lives, and we need to spend more time just tuning it all down for even a brief part of each day. What a great way to "decompress" when you visit the Rourke Art Gallery.

The Rourke is a very small museum, but a perfect example of quality over quantity. The Rourke is excellent at curating collections made by local artists. The exhibit that I took in was that of Mackenzie Kouba, with her moody and dynamic oil-on-giant-canvas masterpieces. The work of other notable local artists like Trygve Olson is also featured in the periphery of the ground floor. On the second floor is the Rourke's small but varied permanent collection, featuring Warhol, Dali, Lichtenstein and Miro,as well as some beautiful cultural masks from cultures around the world. The atmosphere is calm and refined while avoiding pretentiousness. A friendly and quirky little gallery.

no leadership presence there any more, the shows do not change often enough and are poor quality, local artists mostly ignored.

The art exhibits were very good! Great talent! The building itself is old and interesting and makes a very nice space for a gallery. Not very expensive! A great value for the money!!

Sadly this was closed when we were in town for the day, but it was worth a stop just to take a photo with the Vincent Van Bison (as I call him) statue outside. It's a bison statue in the style of Van Gogth that looks like him, wounded ear and all.
