“Family owned and fun”
Reviewed 15 October 2013

The grounds and gardens are beautiful. It is mostly run by the Marti family that own and operate the brewery. They are all personable, friendly and helpful. They give a great tour with tasting to follow. They hold several festivals on the grounds throughout the year of the same type you would find if visiting Germany. New Ulm and Schells are a great stop for anyone wanting to experience a little Germany. We recently visited their Octoberfest. Complete with German polka bands, lederhosen, dirndls and mythical German Naren roaming the grounds.

“Beautiful scenery and entertaining”
Reviewed 3 October 2013

The drive to the Brewery is a tree laden, lots of turns and a little hill before entering the property, excitement builder. The grounds are beautifully kept, yet allowing nature to present its self. The gift shop has fun, unique items and is worth spending some time in. Although we did not do the tour, it is something we will definitely do next time.

“Nice Tour”
Reviewed 20 September 2013

Worth the trip. Limited times & limited number of people allowed on tours, so sign up early. This works well for touring, questions & the tasting at the end. Nice grounds. Look for the Peacocks. Tour lasts about a hour start to finish, allow more time to walk the grounds. I would have enjoyed seeing more of the brewery production, but space is limited.

“Great Tour”
Reviewed 18 September 2013

Went there on a Saturday. Arrived at 1 p.m. and got the last two tickets to the 2:00 tour. All tours were sold out by 3:00. Great tour with a great tasting at the end. They are currently remodeling so future tours will be able to go into the production area. Beautiful grounds, nice museum and gift shop.

“Learn something, taste something, see something”
Reviewed 5 August 2013

An inexpensive tour and short enough to keep the kids attentive. We arrived 1hr prior to the first tour on a Sunday, the brewery was very quiet so lots of time to eat a tailgate sandwich and sign-up for the first tour of the day. As we left a couple of hours later the parking lot was full and cars were parking a long way down the access road. The tour itself was informative, the beer sampling was more than ample and nicely done at the end. Start to finish the tour was about 1hr, but allow for 2hrs by the time you've signed-up, taken the tour, sat and enjoyed your beer (or root beer), explored the flower gardens and perhaps spent a little time in the beer garden (which had live music on the day we visited).

As for the title of the review: we learnt that peacocks (a couple are resident at the brewery), despite being an African bird, apparently like living outdoors even during a Minnesotan winter. We tasted a great range of beers and were guided around one of the oldest breweries in America.

The brewery is for sure worthy of a visit and also gets busy, so plan accordingly to avoid disappointment.
