We stayed at Loon Song for a weekend and there were several other families staying there as well.
First, the good: The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. It was amazing and I slept like a log. The breakfasts are excellent - healthy and nutritious and delicious - and it's fun to converse with other guests around the breakfast table. The grounds are quite lovely with lots of beautiful flowers and a scenic lake and a fire pit. The décor is beautiful and the supplies are generous. The cabin is north of Itasca and you pass over the tiny Mississippi River on the drive there. The hosts are friendly and welcoming and knowledgeable.
Now, the bad: The mosquitoes and horse flies are rampant there because of the lake. Although this problem is common for the area, it seems particularly bad there. Also, the walls are a little thin inside the cabin. If you want to go to bed early or take a nap and there are other guests using the common areas, you can hear them quite clearly. And lastly, there is no cell phone coverage in the area although there is WiFi in the cabin.
Having said all this, I would highly recommend Loon Song. We had a fabulous weekend and will most likely be back at some point.
