This Residence Inn is located a couple of blocks away from the Mayo Clinic main buildings. It took me about 5 minutes to walk to the Gonda building using the underground subway. There's not that much to do in the neighborhood (it's deadly quiet at night), but for someone who has to run to and from appointments, this sure beats driving back and forth.
The hotel itself is in pretty good shape. My studio room was huge, big enough to be a 1BR suite if they added a wall. The decor was pretty modern and stylish, from the oversized L-shaped couch to the artwork on the walls. The kitchen and bathroom, however, have a standard motel motif (i.e. blah). I found the bed and linens to be extremely uncomfortable, but that's a personal preference.
Breakfast is a notch about Fairfield, with scrambled eggs and even a sausage/potato dish. Nothing spectacular but it was free so I went with it.
A note about parking. There is indoor parking for $18 or $11 if you are willing to park in the outside lot. However, you may be better off parking at the Mayo Clinic garages, with rates ranging from $12 a day to $25 for 5 days and $40 for 10 days. I would say the walk to the hotel is no further than the outside lot, and at least it's a covered garage.
Great place to stay overall.More
