“Things you may not know about Mayo History”

It was very interesting to see the actual chairs, desks and medical instruments used back in the day when the Mayo Doctors were practicing medicine. Some of the instruments look scary to have used on patients!

“The Mayo Clinic's Plummer Building...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 November 2013

The Mayo Clinic's Plummer Building is the oldest standing part of the Mayo Clinic, and a beautiful way to honor the history of the Mayo Brothers. This building is a time capsule that captures the spirit of another time, the history of the Mayo Clinic, and an architecture that is the breathtakingly elegant and ornate design of the 1920s.

As someone who will forever be appreciative of the incredible way the Mayo Clinic delivers healthcare, I was particularly appreciative of the history tour of Mayo to gain a better understanding of how William & Charles Mayo designed a system in which "The best interest of the patient is the only interest to be considered."

Do visit the Historical Suite to peek into the past. Don't miss the art! And, in a separate tour, the Plummer Carillon is absolutely amazing. If you are lucky enough, perhaps you will get a private mini-concert from Jeff Daehn, the talented carilloneur.

Whether you are someone who has been touched by the healing of Mayo Clinic, or simply love art, history and elegant architecture, this is a tour you should experience.

The Plummer Building is beautiful architecture and the commitment of the Mayo Clinic to preserving the history of their founders is wise and greatly appreciated. Free access to view the history of medicine and nursing in Rochester. Exceptional site. If you are visiting Mayo Clinic, don't forget to visit the Historical Suite.

“Fascinating Look Back”

The Plummer Building is beautiful inside and out. The offices look as if the Mayo docs would just walk in the next morning. Fascinating pictures on the walls.
