Rochester Marriott Mayo Clinic Area
Ranked #16 of 50 Hotels in Rochester
Certificate of Excellence

In my opinion, the Marriott in Rochester is the upscale hotel of choice when you can afford the best while you are visiting Mayo Clinic. Better yet, choose to pay $30 more per night or so and take a room on the concierge floor with a comfortable lounge for a full breakfast and a glass of wine and snacks in the evening. Not cheap but a value for what you are getting in comfort and quality.

Room Tip: Pick the concierge floor and your breakfast is included.

I have stayed at numerous Marriott hotels in recent years and have always been very satisfied, but this particular hotel is just average. The front desk staff were rude and clueless, the food at Saints restaurant was terrible, and some of our bath towels were stained. However, the room was spacious and the beds were very comfortable

This is a very well maintained property undergoing renovation in the lobby and restaurant. The restaurant is closed due to renovation, there is very little dust and you will see workers around. All these factors lead to only a slight amount of inconvenience to guests. It is not a reason to look for other accomodations.
This hotel is centrally located in Rochester and is adjacent to Mayo clinic, and a block away from Methodist Hospital. Guests have three options of how to reach the Methodist campus which is where we needed to go they are skywalk, street level and subway (which includes shopping along the way).
The staff from the front desk clerk to the housekeeping staff are friendly, attentive and accomodating.
The rooms are newly renovated with dark wood finishing and granite countertops. The flexible LED reading lights attached to the headboards are visually appealing, provide plenty of light and will not wake up sleeping family members!
The beds provide an excellent night's sleep!
I will definitely stay here again.

I rarely write hotel reviews but my experience here has been so positive that I couldn't resist. I've come to Rochester for business - to look at the Mayo clinic for future surgical training. This hotel is a Courtyard at Marriott and is located right across the street from St. Mary's Hospital - the main teaching hospital of the Mayo Clinic. I chose the hotel because of its proximity to St. Mary's but after being here I can tell you that it has absolutely everything you would ever need in a hotel, regardless of whether you were coming here on a business trip. The hotel is impeccably clean. It has a nice restaurant, a free computer area with a printer, free shuttle service from the airport (actually I took a cab and the cab driver still said the hotel would pay for it), a small pool with a jacuzzi and workout room, free fast wireless internet service, a mini-fridge and microwave in your room and a laundry room that is free (no need for quarters). And while this is probably a silly thing to mention, the water pressure in the shower is the best I've ever seen - so strong you feel like your taking a shower with a firehose.

Unlike many other hotels that are huge or fancy - this has everything. Many hotels don't have a laundry room or they charge ridiculous amounts for wireless service. The staff were very friendly and the hospital is literally 50 yards from the hotel. If you happen to have a family or friend as a patient at St. Mary's this is without question where you should stay.

We have visited Rochester twice a year for the past few years staying at the Marriot 5 out of 6 times. We will NEVER stay at the Rochester Mayo Clinic Marriot again. The hotel was under construction, the restaurant was shut down but the worst was the mismanagemennt of the POOL. When I arrived I specifically asked about the pool, this is why we choose this hotel over another in Rochester. I was told by the women at the front desk, the pool was closed but they hoped it would be open by evening. Later I was told by another Patron that the pool would not be open until April. So early in the morning I personally checked the pool, (by visual site the pool was open.) The temperture was correct and everything looked perfect. BUT I wasn't told WHY the pool was closed. Upon returning to the hotel that evening I found the POOL blocked off with yellow tape. I had seen three families swimming that morning and I was concerned over what was wrong with the pool. After 5 phone calls I finally spoke with the General Manager, who explained that glass was broken in the pool area. So they needed to close, drain and clean the pool for safety precautions. This was a justifiable reason for why it had been closed- open- closed but as a patron trying to find out if it was safe for those at the hotel. A sign in the Lobby and at the pool may help communitcate what is going on.

My husband and I stayed here 4 nights in February 2011. We arrived around 10am and were told that we could not check in until 12pm, unless we wanted to pay $50 for an early check in. We've stayed at Marriott hotels for years and have never run into this before. We showed back up at the desk at noon and checked in right away. Be aware that there is an unfriendly employee who mans the desk during the day. We found her to have an unpleasant tone in her voice and was very condescending and short each time we had to interact with her, someone like this has no business working at a hotel connected to the Mayo Clinic. Upon check in we were given our room keys without a mention of the concierge lounge despite having platinum status - after remind her, we were given new keys with access to the "lounge." The concierge lounge is currently undergoing renovations and is currently located on the 4th floor overlooking the pool and gym courtyard area. For breakfast, there was a small selection of bread, muffins, and bagels, cereal, eggs, bacon, grits, and fruit. (This free breakfast is only available to those who have access to the concierge lounge.) Coffee, tea, bottled water, apples, oranges and bananas were available at all times in the concierge lounge. In the evening there was one hot dish, which usually had three things in it (for example, one night was grilled chicken, pasta, and sausage). The evening food left something to be desired. When asking for a room, ask for one overlooking the street rather than the interior courtyard, unless you enjoy watching people swim, workout or eat in the concierge lounge. The hotel is also undergoing renovations (probably of the real concierge lounge). We were witness to loud drilling, sawing, and pounding intermittently through the day from about 9am to 4pm. Some of the ceiling plaster near our window came down due to the construction which seemed to be directly above our room. The best thing about this Marriott was its close location to the Mayo Clinic. It is definitely the best place to stay in terms of location if you are visiting the clinic. The great part is that everything is connected with tunnels and skywalks. We did not have to go outside during our 5 days there. There are small shops and restaurants located in the tunnels and through the skywalks. Don't expect a huge shopping area in the tunnels, but there is enough to keep you occupied for maybe an hour. The Marriott also has a bar and restaurant on the lobby level, but we did not eat there during our stay. Internet is available for around $10 per day, we had it free because of the platinum status. Our room was a typical Marriott room, we have a king as our preference, but were given two queens. We were told that they were oversold on king rooms and that a king room was only our "preference" and not a "request." We also had a mini fridge in our room, but no microwave and there was also not a microwave in the concierge lounge. We took a 15-20 minute cab to and from the airport for a cost of $25 each way (before tip). Once they finish construction of a new concierge lounge, this will be a better place to stay.
