The hotel itself is indeed grand. The location to the Mayo, right across the street. The food in the Grand Grill, excellent. My review from there goes down hill quickly! Service from staff was cold and unfriendly. Actually, upon check in, the man(bald guy) at the desk claimed he didn't have our credit card and prior reservation. Upon some discussion, he found it. No apology. Our room was cleaned twice on a 6 day stay. Dirty glasses left in the hall floor for DAYS, in two separate instances. (Not ours) The only friendly person in this whole hotel was Kent at the Grand Grill who filled in one day for the bartender/server. He normally worked in the kitchen area. Nice, entertaining guy who should give lessons on hospitality and personality to the rest of the staff. Would not recommend. Unless you think it's alright to dish out a rather large amount of money to take care of your every need!

I've stayed at this hotel approximately ten times. I keep coming back because it is one of the most charming hotels I've visited. The lobby has lots of shops, including a very nice little antique store run by the lovely Mrs. Mayo as well as a jewelry store with lots of nice shiny things. I've tried all the restaurants and have eaten seemingly everything on the room service menu. All of the food is good. My favorite dinner restaurant is the Medieval English one in the lobby.

Apart from the long-term staff who are wonderfully trained and truly pleasant people, the best two things about this hotel are the location and the value. It is across the street from the Mayo Clinic (Gonda building) and is also connected by underground walkway, which comes in handy for the Minnesota winters. You can also reach a nice little shopping mall with massage shop and lots of very good restaurants (Chester's, Pappadeux, Michael's, Victoria's and Mac's). There are tons to high end shops in the area.

Yes, this hotel is not brand-spanking new, but it is well maintained, and I find it quite charming. It also keeps the rates at an incredible value. If you're going to be a patient at the clinic, trust me when I say the value and location are important. Once Mayo gets ahold of you, they keep you very busy and tend to need more days once preliminary visits are over. So, it's nice to be able to walk across the street and catch a nap, and it's also nice to not to worry about staying a couple extra days because the rooms are affordable.

Thank you for your kind words and honest opinion. The restaurant you refer to as Medieval English restaurant is called the LORD ESSEX and is located near the lobby of the Kahler Grand. Thanks again, and hope to see you soon.

We stayed at the Kahler Grand during our appointments at Mayo Clinics. It was so convenient to walk across the street to the clinics and be able to walk right out to our car from our floor. We have stayed 3 times now everyone was helpful and friendly. We have more appointments and will be staying here again. Thank you Kahler grand for making us feel welcome.

Had a one night stay, very close to the Mayo. The Kahler is very convienent. A parking ramp is available and a link between the hotel and the Mayo. I stayed in an inexpensive room, nothing special. When traveling back to the Mayo I will use the Kahler again.

We have stayed at the Kahler Grand twice now when we had appointments at the Mayo Clinic. We love the fact that we can walk out the front door and across the street to the clinic. The staff at the front desk is wonderful in helping us if we have to change our reservation or helping us with parking. The rooms are clean and comfortable. I have used the fitness room, it has lots of equipment. I have also used the business center's computers. The Kahler Grand has food, shopping, shuttles to other facilities all right there in one place. I highly recomment this hotel to anyone with appointments at the Mayo Clinic.

Room Tip: We chose the smaller economy room. It was comfortable and big enough for our needs. It only has a fu...

My wife and I stayed at the Kahler Grand last week and had no heat in our room. They got it fixed the next morning but the night was very cold. This is not the first time.

What is happening to all the nice little shops in the lobby and lower level. They seem to be moving out. My family has been staying at the Kahler since 1946 and we are going to try other Rochester hotels. It is tough to leave a long time friend when they are down but enough is enough. We are moving on. . .

We are ever changing, and for the better. Everything we do is with the guest in mind. We hope you will change your mind and give us a try the next time you are in town. I am sorry for the heating issue, I can only imagine how you must have felt not having enough heat during the night. I am glad we could have at least get the heat circulating in the morning. Thank you for letting us know your thoughts.

Our first time at Mayo and Kahler Grand Hotel. Was an excellent experience while dealing with medical issues for my husband. Made it very easy for me to take care of him before our 5 1/2 hour trek back to northern MN. Was very nice to just use a wheelchair from the Mayo to our room, get him situated and room service ordered and then of course off for some shopping for me but felt comfortable leaving him because I was still very close to the room.

We will be back in December!
