“Kids will love the pool area - Parents will like the clean and quiet hotel”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

We stayed Saturday and Sunday night on a visit to the grandkids and had the pool area all to ourselves all Sunday afternoon. The kids had so much fun they did not want to leave. Another reviewer cautioned about the kid pool parties on Saturdays; by the time we arrived late Saturday afternoon the parties were gone and we were able to have a quiet pool time on Saturday evening.

Our room was a suite with separate bedroom and king bed. There was a full sized refrigerator, range, oven, microwave and small dishwasher in the kitchenette. The room had a desk, chair and sleeper sofa. A second chair would have been nice. The room was compact but very clean and in good repair. Other reviewers mentioned noises from the floors above so we requested the 3rd floor. Room 304 is a long walk from the elevator at the end of the hall and was very quiet. The windows face west so the room was very warm when we got there but the air conditioners worked well and it was soon cooled down. The ice maker in the ref was slow to make ice so we got some from the front desk clerk. There are no public ice makers on any of the floors so ask at the front desk if you need ice.

The pool area the one of the best I have seen. There are two pools: a kids pool that is zero to 2 feet deep and a second one that is 3 to 5 feet deep. Each pool has a water slide appropriate to the pool - small for the kids pool, large for the other one. The control for the kids pool is on the south wall by the windows - it is not marked. The water temperature was comfortably warm.

The hot tub/spa is large but the water was so hot it was almost unusable. We reported this to the front desk so hopefully it will be corrected.

We did not use the laundry but another guest said it was very nice.

The hotel is located near stores and restaurants but not a walkable distance.

This is a very nice property. We will consider staying here again when we visit our little water bugs (grandkids).

Room Tip: Stay on the 3rd floor if noise above you is a problem.

Our visit here was very nice. My husband had booked the hotel without my input and when we went down to the pool area with the kids I was blown over! There was a zero entry pool with a small slide and water feature for the smaller kids. (The water feature either wasn't working or wasn't turned on, so that was a bummer.) And in the larger pool there were two water slides, which provided us with a lot of fun "racing" down. What I loved about the larger pool was that there was still room to swim away from the slides. Nice design. The whirlpool was large, but the jets weren't super powerful.
Our suite was WONDERFUL, providing enough room and privacy for the five of us. The one thing that stuck out like a sore thumb was that our desk chair was REALLY badly worn. Otherwise, things in the hotel were clean and in good shape.
We will most CERTAINLY stay there again when are in Rochester again!

We found ourselves in Rochester, MN for a Mayo Clinic stay for 2.5 long weeks. We found this hotel to be a great option, but there are some things you should know.

The good:
Clean, well-kept, quiet area, full kitchens in all rooms
The daily free breakfast is good with lots of options (though it is the same everyday)
The staff was very helpful and professional whenever we needed something or had a question
The pool is great for kids, and they have a nice workout room too
There is a free shuttle to Mayo that runs every hour and is always on time
SuperTarget, Wal-Mart, and restaurants are closeby
In our one-bedroom unit, there was a TV both in the main room and bedroom
Laundry room on second floor was great; it does require quarters but front desk staff can make change for you. There is also a small dispenser for laundry soap, softener, etc.

The bad:
Ceilings are thin; unless you're on the third floor, expect to be able to hear the people upstairs
Housekeeping was a bit dicey on some of the days; they also are only available the first half of the day
It's a bit out of the way; takes about 25 minutes to get to Mayo on the (shared) shuttle, or 10 minutes if you're driving

Overall we felt that this was a great place for us to stay given our needs (two young children). If I was traveling solo, I might have stayed someplace much closer to Mayo, as the shuttle that comes here is actually shared among many hotels so it takes 25 minutes to/from Mayo and only runs once an hour. But our kids slept well on the pull-out bed, we cooked almost every meal in the kitchen in our suite, and when we wanted to get out a little bit the Target was a nice 15-minute walk away. If we all come out here again, we wouldn't hesitate to repeat our stay at the Townplace Suites.

Room Tip: If you're very sensitive to noise, ask for a room on the third floor. If you expect to do a lot...

Very clean, well keep Marriott property, good hot breakfast, shuttle to the Mayo Clinic at no cost. Have stayed here many times would stay again if available, I've never been to a poorly keep Marriott property.

We came for almost a month in May while our daughter participated in an outpatient program. Our two-bedroom suite was spacious, and the full kitchen meant we could really cook meals in rather than go out each and every meal. The staff was very nice and went out of their way to be helpful. The small criticisms are: (1) the grills need to be replaced or repaired and (2) the staff was somewhat less than knowledgeable about the free shuttle service to Mayo. As it turns out, the shuttle service for the hotel makes certain stops upon request. If you are in for a long stay, note, you do not have to pay the occupancy tax for stays over 30 days. Also, the hotel itself is about five to ten minutes from downtown. So, if you don't have a car, you are limited. Other hotels have shuttle services that will take you to more than simply the Mayo clinic. But, for the price, the quality, and space, we made the right choice.

We have gone to this hotel several times and have always had a positive experience except for this time. We have always asked for and gotten the top floor room. The front desk claimed this was not requested this time, and clearly did not bother to research our 3-4 stays over the past 2 years and "were sorry" that they could only offer us a HANDICAPPED bottom floor room. On our third night, we thought a herd of elephants were stomping on our ceiling. At 12:30 am, We contacted the front desk. Their reply was that some people had just checked in and they would request they "settle down". Well, we are on our fourth night and it is the same thing. 12:30 am, and the noise is unacceptable. Front desk said they will "see what is going on". We honestly don't think it is the people above us at fault. The hotel was clearly built without consideration of noise level for others. Guests should be entitled to walk around AND those on lower floors should be entitled to a reasonably quiet room.
We will be spending our thousands on a room during our numerous stays at Rochester elsewhere in the future.

The suites were spacious and very clean. The staff was very friendly and answered all of our questions. Breakfast was good. We were on the first floor and could hear someone walking around all night long in the room above us. Beds were comfortable. The DVD player in the room was a nice touch! The pool was nice and never crowded. The spa was not working our first night there, but they fixed it as soon as they could. One suggestion for the hotel is to maybe put in a dining room table with chairs rather than the computer desk. Great place and would probably stay again if we needed to be in the area.
