“A must see when you visit”
Reviewed 27 November 2013

If you are looking to gain an insight into what the mindset was at a place in time whether it be the Civil War or the times of the Greatest Generation this is a place for all ages to visit. And granted if you're a local and watching football has gotten a little too painful, this is a good alternative. I've visited this place on several occasions and the one constant factor is they put the effort into creating a quality exhibit. Plus you're close to some good places to stop in for a meal and or a pint(that's if checking out neat stuff makes you thirsty). So have a look sometime. If the exhibits don't catch your eye, the architecture of this place, inside and out, should do the job.

“1968 at the Minnesota History Center”
Reviewed 26 November 2013

We visited the history center for a special exhibition entitled 1968! It was wonderful but so much information to take in. It was also winter in Minnesota when people go to inside attractions. It was quite crowded on a Saturday mid-day.

“Great for architecture alone”
Reviewed 25 November 2013 via mobile

I've chaperoned so many field trips here, I've OD'd a little. But the native granite and timber and other materials used to construct the place are impressive. The gift shop has a great array of books and quality MN handiwork. And toddlers (and at least one grown up) like taking the voyage of a grain through the chutes and ladders silo-- fun every time!

“Makes it living!”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

The permanent exhibits of the Minnesota History Center are interesting enough for a visit. But the special exhibits make a visit a must. Currently, the topic is the Prohibition Era and it is fascinating. As an amateur historian myself, I thought I knew a good bit about the time period, but I learned a number of facts and stories as a result of the well-thought-out and artfully constructed display. The MHC is well worth the trip when in the Twin Cities. And the restaurant is really good, too!

“One of five best attractions in St Paul - very interactive”
Reviewed 9 November 2013

Really well done. They have exhibits that will appeal to people of all ages. Special exhibits change. On now (as of early Nov, 2013) are one "then and now" that is great for kids and one on prohibition, plus one of a real house that literally several hundred people lived in over an 80 year period in St. Paul.

See pictures below of a buffalo that you can open up and "scan" body parts to learn how America Indians used various parts; sod house you can enter and compare with your current living situation, tee-pee that has fascinating video inside. These are only examples.

Good restaurant too.

HINT - if you park a block or so away, you can save $5 fee for parking lot.
