Owner description: The Bigger, Better, Bolder Museum is Open! This is our first major renovation since we opened our downtown St. Paul museum in 1995. Children and adults alike delight in our 10 new exhibits and enjoy a variety of new amenities. A glass addition along West Seventh Street houses The Scramble, a four-story climbing adventure. Elsewhere in the new museum, visitors delight in an updated pretend town, get creative in two maker workshops and engineer their own fun in an air-and-water exhibit. Families also enjoy a bigger toddler gallery and step out into a revamped rooftop and backyard. Kids craft their own adventures in a ninja-training course and a carpet skate park. This is play like it’s meant to be. Natural. Joyous. Genuine. Children will explore, experiment, try new things, test their limits, adapt and grow. Each exhibit helps children develop the life skills they need to succeed throughout life — how to think creatively, make plans, analyze problems, tackle challenges, speak and listen, work as part of a team and more.
Useful Information: Activities for older children, Food available for purchase, Activities for young children, Lockers / storage, Baby buggy parking, Wheelchair access

We made the trip to St. Paul this summer with our three-year-old son to primarily see the Thomas & Friends exhibit. We didn't tell him where we were going or what we would be seeing so he became so excited when he saw the Thomas the Train picture on the front of the building! He was literally jumping up and down with excitement when we entered the exhibit and made a dash for the giant train table. He really enjoyed climbing on Thomas and loading coal into Percy.

The rest of the Children's Museum was just as fun for him! He loved the Earth World and Habitot exhibits best after Thomas & Friends because he was able to just run around and crawl through tunnels. We enjoyed watching him play and seeing all of the detail that went into the exhibits, some of which were very beautiful.

Having a five year old boy, a stop at the local children's museum is always a must on our family vacations.

This museum is definitely in the top five we have experienced. There are great exhibits for all ages that incorporate large motor and fine motor skill development as well as intellectual knowledge.

Our son's favorite part was playing in the ant hill dressed as an ant. He loved the tunnels and learning how worker ants assist the queen ant.

The Habitat was a great place for kids 0-4 to explore away from some of the commotion of the older kids. There was a room off The Habitat for a mom to nurse a child. I found this room to be very nice. A little more private than nursing on a bench with a cover. Plus, the door to this room could be opened at the top to allow a mom to watch an older child play while nursing.

During the summer months there is a rooftop activity garden with sand and water features.

The traveling exhibit right now is Thomas the Train. This interactive exhibit was also a hit with our oldest son.

We spent 5 hours there and never got tired of the exhibits. We can't wait to go back in a few months when our youngest (12 weeks) is a bit stronger to explore some of The Habitat on his own while big brother continues to learn how things work, go, and grow.

By far the best museum for kids that I've seen. My three-year-old granddaughter spent a couple of hours here -- it's one of her favorite places -- and there's always something to do. Staffers are kind and patient. Parking is relatively inexpensive and nearby.

I wasn't sure how much my 2 year-old would get out of this visit, but he LOVED it. In one of the exhibits, the kids pretend to be ants in a colony. My son was running up and down the ramps and saying "Mommy! So fun! So fun!" I loved that they had such a variety of play - large muscle play areas where he can run and jump, and other areas where he can read, create art, etc. We will definitely be back!

I took my daughter, who loves Thomas the Train to MCM and she had a blast. With every turn there was something new to see and do.
