The meal was delicious, and some what unexpected. Everything was interesting, and atypical. Would recommend to anyone.

“Wonderful light dinner with friends”
Reviewed 5 April 2014

This is a lovely place on the North side of Mears Park. Came after a local gallery reception and the place was friendly, the wait staff attentive, the food was excellent and presented in appealing fashion, everything well thought out. Guacamole was served in a Molcajete. Pork Carnitas Taco were delicious - meat was smoked and so flavorful, as was the chicken and black bean tostada. Sangria was thick and not too sweet. Local beers available. Everyone was friendly and happy to be there.

“Nice, lively restaurant”
Reviewed 24 March 2014 via mobile

We ate at Barrio last Friday evening after having in recommended to us by someone we met walking through the skyway system. It was a good recommendation. Their menu contains a lot of "small plates" (tapas). Being a Friday night in Lent, we were focused on non-meat choices. Their mahi mahi tacos were very tasty. I thought the spicy crab soup was good, but not great (a strong fishy taste). Their margaritas were very good and very reasonable during happy hour. The restaurant was loud, but not overpowering (like the sports bar next door) -- easy to hold a conversation. We enjoyed it and would go back again.

“great atmosphere”
Reviewed 2 February 2014

Barrio is a great place to head in downtown St. Paul. Cool interior and good menu. We really like the small plates so you can get a sampling of lots of different stuff. The drink menu is great and the tequilas are tasty.

“Not as good as the other Barrio locations”
Reviewed 27 January 2014

The fact that there were very few diners at lunch should have been a clue. Add to that the bucket placed on the floor next to our booth to catch water dripping from who knows where gave a bad first impression.

The service, however, was quite congenial if a little unpolished.

The food was not as well prepared as that at the Edina and downtown Minneapolis locations and seemed pricey for the quantity and quality.

Fortunately we were dining with good friends and had a great time despite the not so stellar restaurant.
