We have stayed at this Embassy Suites for many years, for many different reasons, and we have always liked the hotel, in general. We like the suite rooms, the really good complimentary breakfast, & the complimentary happy hour. However, we were not happy with the "remodeling" they did that was nothing more than "redecorating". They got rid of the sink/vanity areas in the bedrooms, which we liked, & they replaced them with an open closet, with no luggage racks, so your luggage sits out in the open, on the floor. Also, they did nothing to replace or even re-caulk around the ancient windows, so the wind, & noise from outside, just blows right in.

Located in downtown St. Paul this is a very comfortable hotel for business. The free hot breakfast with "to order" omlettes is delicious and the rooms are designed well with the livingroom nearest to the atrium and the bedroom in the back away from the noise. There is also an evening free drinks reception from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. The staff is friendly and very helpful. I also like the three little ducks in the pond. I only wish there was a magnifying mirror in the bathroom and more hangers in the closet.

My friend and I stayed here in August 2013 (late review - sorry) to go and see a concert at the State Fair. This was truly one of the most disappointing hotel stays I have ever had. The building is old and run down. The first room they put us in smelled TERRIBLE. Mostly smoke, but mildew musty undertones. The next room they moved us to also smelled bad, but that that point it was better so we just decided to live with that. It was extremely hot weather when we were there, and our AC did not work properly. I called down to the desk and instead of working to fix the AC (They said it was just an old building and unit and that was the best it could work in those temperatures), they sent up a disgusting and broken box fan from their utility room. It had no on or off switch and was covered in dark brown dust. I did not use it for fear of spreading filth all over the room. The mini-fridge was covered with black mold inside. The bathroom was rusty and falling apart. The worst part was this was not a cheap room. I paid more for this hotel room than I did staying at the Hilton in Minneapolis a couple of months before. I took several pictures of problems we saw, just because they were so unbelievable in a hotel that had supposedly just undergone a multi million dollar renovation. Very disappointing stay. However, I do not like to say all bad things, so I will close with the fact that they did offer us shuttle service to the fair for a nominal fee and the driver was very prompt and nice.

We are in touch with the guests who gave this review on March 8th in an effort to make things right frm there previous stay. The Hotel has completed a Multimillion dollar renovation of its guest rooms as well as the majority of the public space in an effort to give our guests the best quality product and overall guest experience possible.

If some reason that does not happen we will do everything in our power to make it right.

The rooms were recently renovated - this is your typical Embassy suites - good down town location in St Paul. Usual managers reception (which I missed because I didn't arrive till late) and the breakfast in the morning. Does have a bar just off reception which is good for hanging out in after a long day. When we were there it was polar bear weather - 16F (-34F with wind chill) the big downside with embassy suite is that it is not connected to the elevated indoor walkways that criss cross St Paul so you freeze to death after two blocks rather than being inside... Not a big deal if you dint go in the winter!

When we travel as a family we select Embassy Suites when available. We laugh because our kids (8 & 10) always ask to stop when we see an Embassy Suites. We usually enjoy the space, the breakfast and the pool. We stayed at this location on Valentine's Day and it was busy as expected. Nice lobby, great service upon check-in. However, when we arrived at our room and got settled, we noticed smears on the bed comforter and pillows. I originally thought it was chocolate (Valentine's Day optimism). Upon inspection, we discovered it was poop. In two distinct places. When I went to the desk and want to request to depart for another hotel, I was told that wasn't possible as I had reserved the room via Expedia. Oh well - that doesn't seem right. Reluctantly were moved to a different room. It was a great room, but no one felt comfortable after the poop experience, not even the kids. My son mentioned "I don't think I want to stay at Embassy Suites again." This one will be a tough memory to set aside.

In general, this is an older building with a huge central atrium and the hotel rooms are very big. The aged windows allow in quite a lot of cold air, but the room heating system can easily keep up. Do NOT get a room in the northwest corner over the loading dock. I was on the 3rd floor and the noise was unbearable 24/7. The hotel staff quickly made an accommodation for me to move, which was quite nice. The rooms have no real view. The manager's gathering in the evenings is a fantastic deal with real food and good beverages available at no cost - awesome for those travelling on a budget and hoping to socialize a bit in the evenings! Breakfast is outstanding - quality and portion size. The linens were of slightly above average quality and staff we cordial but not overly friendly. I did try the attached bar for dinner and the food was top notch!

Room Tip: Northwest corner rooms are very noisy. If travelling in the winter, plan to set your heat above wha...

Just okay. Wasn't dirty or anything. Could have stayed at similar chain with similar amenities cheaper. Hotels shoujd give guests wifi free. Its silly to charge for this now. Lots of non working light bulbs in my room.
