The best thing about Barracrab Clairview is that it is just the right distance between Airlie Beach and Yeppoon for a stop, for those on a road-trip.
But even without this geographic convenience, it is a great place to overnight. Outwardly it is a rough-and-ready caravan park, but with lots of modern facilities - and in addition to that it has a great bar, dining room, and serves meals too.
It is set up for fishermen and crabbers seeking a great spot for a weekend or a month, but even if these are not your interests, it really is a slice of "The Real Australia". Most of all the on-sight managers are welcoming, very friendly, and cannot do enough for you.
The bar looks over the water, the beer is very cheap, and the locals are great to talk to.
We stayed in a Queen Bed studio - and even though it was very small, it was adequate. It was helped by having a large balcony, a nearby BBQ, and the bar-restaurant just down the track.
I can strongly recommend it for anyone on the road between Airlie Beach (or Mackay) and Yeppoon (or Rockhampton) - and especially for overseas travellers who would like to see a slice of a genuine Australian caravan park, with its bar, its interesting fishermen, and its tall stories! Recommended.
