We, myself and a friend, arrived with the ferry, got picked up by the staff at Castaway and driven to the camp site. Note; it was absolutely pouring down with rain! We were also told there was a fishing competition this weekend, and that the camp site was full.
Arrived at the camp site, was welcomed by Lacy, a wonderful woman who served us hot coffee while we waited for our tent to be finished. Oh yes, they have Glamping (Glamorous camping), pre set up tents with a en-suit, I loved it, even with all the rain! It was damp, but so nice to relax and listen to the rain.

Back to the staff. Like mentioned a couple of times, it was pouring down, and we asked if there was any chance of borrowing the phone to call for a guided tour to show us the island. No problem, we called and to our disappointment, no, they couldn't drive the tour that day, there was no more roads for half the tour.. Oh well, nothing to do about the weather, so we said thank you and hung up. Then to our surprise, Lacy came out and said that they had a man working there that wanted to take us on a tour! Of course we said thank you and of we went!
This man happened to be Grant, our private tour guide and rally driver for the day! He drove us around, sat very patiently in the car while we headed out to take pictures of everything, mostly the rain, and told us just about everything about the island, its history and people. Some parts of the road were nearly gone in places, large pools of water and lots of funny bumps here and there, but we managed to see a lot, and had a very good time while doing so.

The food packs aren't all that, but then again, you cook it your self.. So if you bring a bit food, you can make what ever you please in the barbecue area.
We met lots of fishermen, and women, and sat there for hours drinking beer and talking to all these nice people. And Grant off course!

After a night sleeping to the sound of rain, we made our breakfast and got driven to Tanglaooma Resort to book some activities. We booked a snorkeling tour at the Wrecks, and the sun finally appeared.
The equipment, especially the wet suits have seen better days, and the boat they use to drive out to the Wrecks needs either new drivers or needs to be replaced. Confusing ride..
The snorkeling it self was pleasant, not to impressing, but still good fun.

All in all, I think the people at Castaways and the other travelers we met was the biggest plus on this adventure, but the island it self is absolutely beautiful, and I rather go back and stay at Castaway and hang around there, than go to Tanglaooma with all its activities..

Room Tip: Glamping must be tried!

Thank you so much for taking the time to give us your feedback - we're terribly sorry about the weather (we will work harder on this!!), but so happy that our staff were able to make the experience so positive despite the rain. Our company motto of Simply Excellent Service inspires all our staff to do their best on a daily basis, and we are so pleased that this made the difference for your trip. As you noted, we work hard but we also play hard, so always happy to join guests for a beer and a chat!

We do hope you come back again and visit us when the sun is shining - Moreton is a magical place, but definitely much more attractive when the sun is shining! We look forward to welcoming you back soon!

What an amazing Island and what an amazing way to have the freedom to explore Moreton Island.

The meal packs were excellent in the main.

The tents have very good bathrooms - shower/WC/basin but no electrical sockets - which isn't really a problem - you can charge phones etc. over in the kitchens but if you want to spend hours doing your hair, I wouldn't bother going to the Island in the first place ;o)

The management and staff were excellent -friendly and helpful.

I cannot wait to visit again. Well worth a visit.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. We really appreciate your positive comments, and are delighted that you had such a good experience on the island. You are right - the bathrooms are great - and a fabulous luxury when 'camping', and so true that this type of stay is not ideal if you want to spend hours doing your hair! It is indeed more 'glamorous' camping than 'bush' camping, but we like to think that our guests will get into the spirit of the site. We try to make it accessible for those who want to travel light, so really pleased that you got to experience this!
Do come back and visit us soon - we're sure you'll enjoy it as much as the first time!

My girlfriend and another family (2 adults and 2 kids) stayed in the glamping tents for three nights from a Friday to the Sunday.
First the tents are great. the bed was comfy, the tent was clean and the ensuite is well setup, with a hot shower and proper flushing toilet The communal grassy area, fire pit and kitchen were all great and the kitchen well equipped with two bbqs, 2 fridges, utensils, cleaning products and the like.
One fridge is dedicated to meal packs for guests, while the other is a communal shared fridge.
The staff (Russell and Steve at least) were very friendly and helpful, but we couldn't say the same about the staff in Castaways Cafe (more on that later).

The meal packs were very disappointing - no cereal or bread for breakfast, (croissants and doughy pastries) and the dinner packs I'd call 'barely edible'. There wasn't enough food, the steak was as tough as boot leather, and you don't have a choice of meals, which is tough for those parents with kids.
When our friends (with 2 kids) complained that they hadn't received much food the night before, their complaint was dismissed as 'something they must've imagined'.
A much better idea is save your money, take your own meals, or eat at Tangalooma resort.

Also, the cafe apparently doesn't open if all guests have ordered meal packs, so there's no option to pick up a snack or an alternative if you don't like the food pack. And because the food pack fridge is accessible to all guests, don't be surprised if some of your food goes 'missing'.
Don't rely on the cafe's advertised open and closing times either - it's very unreliable.

If I ran Castaways, I'd get rid of the meal packs altogether and offer the option of either eating in the cafe or bring your own food.
It's also an idea to bring plenty of your own drinking water. The water supply comes from bore water, so you need to boil it first before drinking. Castaways doesn't seem to provide any drinking water and it's not mentioned on the website as far as I could see.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. As always, we take all customer feedback very seriously, as it allows us to ensure that we are consistently offering the best possible service.

We are so pleased that you found the tents comfortable and clean, and enjoyed the luxurious ensuite, communal area and the well-stocked Glamp kitchen. We are very disappointed however that you weren't completely happy with the food packs, which I believe you also expressed at the time. I have spoken to the staff as well as requested feedback from other guests who stayed at the site on the same dates, to understand whether yours was a common complaint, and it seems that many of our other guests raved about the food packs, and in particular the quality of the steaks. I also understand that when you raised your concerns with the staff, we were able to offer an alternative option (salmon), which was gratefully accepted. However, as with all camping experiences, we are often in the hands of the 'BBQ expert' as to the final quality of the cooked meat, so we would be more than happy to give some tips next time on how to avoid a tough steak. Our staff are always available to help out where they can, and at the time, the staff felt that they had dealt appropriately with your concerns and helped resolve the situation as best as possible.

I do hope you come back to visit us soon - I'm sure you will enjoy the experience as much as the first time, and we will continue to monitor the quality and quantity of the food packs to ensure that we are catering for all needs. Thank you again for your custom and for your feedback.
Best wishes,
The Team at Moreton Island Adventures

Our family had a great weekend on Moreton island in cabin number seven. We arrived on the island to find our transfer waiting for us. Steve, our host, was friendly and helpful. He put our bags in the bus and made sure we were all comfortable before giving our family our first 4WD bus experience. Our little ones had squeals of delight as we spotted the sights along the way. When we arrived Lacey greeted us with a smile and offered us a coffee as we waited for our tent to be cleaned. We spent five minutes exploring our camp site before we were led into our cabin, ahead of schedule. Our cabin was beautiful, clean and a welcome sight. The staff checked in with us at our cabin just after settling in - to make sure we were ok and to ask if we needed anything. After a brief chat we continued our exploration. The camp site was very easy to navigate and allowed a variety of spaces for our children to play in. (Next time we would bring a sand bucket as the sand pit was a popular spot for our two year old). The restaurant and shop (a stones throw away) is well equipped with all camping needs and very affordable. We were able to purchase lunch each day for our family and a lovely bottle of wine to enjoy once the kiddies had gone to bed. Our favourite part of the trip was the camp fire each night and the toasted marshmallows. Well done Moreton Island Adventures. Looking forward to seeing you again soon Lacey and Steve!

A friend & I recently spent 1 night glamping at Castaways & we were pleasantly surprised with the whole fantastic experience! The tents are clean, comfortable & welcoming - we particularly loved the bedspread! We weren't expecting such modern amenities in the bathroom but we certainly weren't complaining! Hot showers & a proper toilet are always nice :-) The campsite is well maintained & thoughtfully set out so you feel like you have your own space. The fire pit is great, we enjoyed roasting a few marshmallows. The communal kitchen has everything you need - including a few power points to charge your "necessities" like iPhones ;-) The meal packs were wonderful & quite filling. Bulwer Beach is just a hop, skip & jump from the tents & that end of the island is not only stunningly beautiful, it's quiet & not over-run with people. Lacey & Steve were delightful hosts & made sure our transfers to & from the Micat were informative & entertaining. The only suggestions we have (& this is nit-picking) would be maybe an extra freestanding shelf in the tents for personal belongings & also another hook or 2 in the bathrooms; also the kitchen is really dim at night, you need an extra torch to see what you're cooking & eating, so maybe some more lights in there. The only thing we were quite disappointed about was parking at the Port of Brisbane - we weren't told that each car costs $12/day so a weekend is $24 per car. We couldn't see this information on the website either. By the time you get to the Port, it's a bit too late to look at other alternatives so you really have no choice but to pay the charge. If we had known earlier, we would have at least organised to car-pool to keep costs down. Again, that was the only downside to our trip & the pros definitely out-weighed this slight frustration. We'll definitely be back!

Thank you so much for taking the time to review your Moreton Island adventure - we are delighted that you had such a great time. You're right - the beaches at Bulwer are stunning, and so close to our Glampsite!
Thank you too for the suggestions - we are sending over an electrician this weekend to improve the lighting in the Glamp kitchen, and the parking information is available on our Fares page but we will make it clearer so that people can plan ahead and make alternative arrangements if necessary.
And yes, isn't the fire pit fabulous? The kids (and grown-ups!) just love a few marshmallows cooked over an open fire!
We hope to see you on the island again soon!
