“Beautiful view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 March 2014

Spent a night in the Albatross cottage on our travels up the coast. The view is the most striking asset of the character cottages, it cannot be faulted. Luckily we had a great afternoon and following morning to soak it all in. I even tempted fate and went in the beach, Tassie water is not that warm in March. The cottage has a lovely balcony too which we made full use of. The cottage was what you would expect of a beach house, nice but basic. It is self contained but if you want to cater get your supplies from St Helens on the way in. There is a restaurant below the cottages if you want to try it out, It was even open on a Monday night which impressed me. The rooms are comfortable, the beds could do with an upgrade though. 1 queen and 1 double, not really great for 2 couples. Bigger beds would be ideal. A couple more towels also wouldn't go astray. Nothing to detract one from staying though, we had a great time.

Thank you for taking the time to post this review.
Glad you enjoyed the beauty of our area.
Unfortunately, due to the size of the bedrooms we are only able to fit a queen, double and set of bunks in each of the three.
The double and queen ensembles are new as are the bunks and mattresses.
Accommodation in a remote area such as ours is very expensive to run as we have no infrastructure and have to supply everything ourselves right down to the water in the tanks.
One night accommodation is generally slightly more expensive as otherwise not cost effective.

We recently stayed at Albatross and although the cottage was an older style cottage it was presented well and had great views particularly from the large balcony. The wood fire BBQ we found great to use at the sheltered back , this made up for the lack of an oven which would have been useful.
The café below was great for coffee and evening drinks , the breakfast/lunch and dinner menus as did the food we saw looked good and it had a good feel about it - the view was very good but not as great as the one we had as we were higher up the hill.
On the way from St. Helens we picked up some oysters from the farm "lease 65" on the road in.

Thank you for your review and taking the time to post it.
It is great that you enjoyed our lovely area, the onsite Cafe/Restaurant and our sumptuous plump oysters.
Unfortunately we had to remove our ovens as we found we were in some cases spending hours keeping them cleaned.
There is the wood fired barbecue to each cottage, hot plates, microwave, electric banquet fry pan and plenty of other utensils crockery etc.

We have stayed here a few times now and we love it! I look forward to getting here so that I can take in the amazing view from the verandah with a coffee or glass of wine. The cottages have all of the basics to cater for yourself and the cafe is a few steps away. Comfortable living spaces with plenty of verandah area to take in the views and fresh sea air. Beds are fairly comfortable, but the doona (quilt) is a little on the heavy side for me. Microwave, full sized fridge and small dishwasher available and washing machine. An oven would be good but you can manage without if if you know in advance.

Friendly and easy to book in. Lovely family holiday location.

Just like yourself I loved my many holidays in Binalong Bay with my children and it was where we returned to time and time again
There is a light blanket to use under the bed cover if you prefer not to use a Doona on the warmer nights.
We did once have ovens but after many problems removed them.
There are the 2 or 4 burner hot plates plus a banquet Electric Fry pan along with the fridge, microwave, small appliances plus pots, pans, crockery and cutlery.
There is an outdoor wood fired babeque

We stayed in Dotril Cottage for four nights and loved every minute of our time in Binalong Bay and neighbouring areas. The view from the cottage is fantastic, the beaches gorgeous, the bed was very comfortable and everything you need is provided. WiFi is an additional cost if you want/need it. I had read the reviews saying that the Reception was confusing so we just went to the cottage directly and I went to find Marion higher up the hill, not really a problem. If you have time, St Helens is a nice place to grab a coffee and a drive out to the Gardens and to St Helens Point will take you to some lovely beaches and lookouts.

We stayed in Kingfisher cottage for 5 nights. Everything was clean and well maintained, and the cottage contained everything we needed. The view from Kingfisher was not as far-reaching as from the cottages higher up, but we didn't have the up-hill climb up the driveway, so that made up for it! Our view was lovely - looking over the sparkling water and northwards up the coastline. Cafe was a stones' throw away, and New Year's Eve dinner there was lovely. There are heaps of places to explore in Bay of Fires area - we could have stayed longer. Thanks Marion -lovely stay!

We stayed at Dotril. The venue requires a two-night minimum stay in Summer. However, the owners were flexible when we contacted them seeking a single night booking. Dotril is a cosy cottage with stunning, uninterrupted beach views. All of the basic amenities were provided and the cottage has heating available for cooler evenings. The rooms are simply furnished but adequate for anyone seeking a casual beach vacation. Reception is at the top of the hill which we found confusing to locate. Binalong Bay itself is a hidden gem. It's picturesque, laid-back and serene. We'd have stayed longer if we'd known more about this idyllic location in advance.

Room Tip: To find reception, take the right fork on the steep driveway and follow it to the top of the hill .

One night is not enough as there is a great deal to explore in the area and surrounding areas.
Maybe you will be able to return one day for an extended stay and enjoy all that the area has to offer.
