“A perfect French holiday home from home”
Reviewed 17 November 2013 for a stay in June 2013

Maison Blanche was perfect for us (two couples). We loved the village location, shop and bar just round the corner, two boulangeries (one opposite) and an excellent restaurant just down the street. We are keen cyclists and there was no shortage of places to cycle to and the bikes were quite safe at the back of the house. We barbecued on the gas barbecue most evenings sitting outside in the lovely secluded courtyard drinking locally produced wine that we had bought at various wine tastings in the area.
Maison Blanche is the best equipped property we have stayed in in France, the large kitchen lacks for nothing, cooker and washing machine easy to use. Comfortable sitting room with wood burner (although we didn't need to use it), wi fi, tv and cd player. Both bedrooms excellent each with its own ensuite bathroom.
All in all this property suited us perfectly and we loved it so much that we've booked again for next year!

“Beautifully renovatedand well equipped french gite offering a relaxing holiday with lots to do locally.”
Reviewed 30 October 2013 for a stay in August 2013

Although the property looks nothing from the outside it is like a 'Tardis' and inside it is spacious with every modern amenity. The linen and towels were all new and the kitchen was well stocked with a message to help ourselves and just replace what we use. The courtyard garden however became our favourite sitting position during the stay and the gas BBQ was often used. There are local shops for the basics and within a few minutes drive of the gite are local towns with supermarkets and regular street markets. Being in the wine district there are plentiful vineyards and opportunities for tasting. However, our highlight was discovering a regular Friday night street party at Villefranche de Lonchat (5 minutes away) where you simply bought locally produced food and drink from the market stalls and sat at a table and ate and drank with the locals - and even had a dance courtesy of the local band. The children also loved the area because the local lake has just been refurbished and offers a sandy beach and various 'activities' during the school summer holidays. There are also other sandy beach alternatives such as on the bank of the Dordogne and a lake just outside St Foy Le Grande. We discovered all this by talking to the locals at the village market - many of whom were Brits who had resettled here. A week was not enough to discover the local area. I would recommend it for families or couples. My only bugbear was lack of wi-fi (although there was use of their pc which had extremely slow access to the internet) which meant trotting down to the cafe across the road and ordering a coffee to get use of their free wifi.

So glad you had a wonderful stay at the house in St Meard. I know you had a problem with the wifi for which I apologise. It has worked for everyone else since we had it connected. The password is a little long but that is Orange.fr for you. Hope to see you return sometime with your family perhaps at another time of year.
