We stayed in a jacuzzi and fireplace deluxe room in the main lodge. The room was very clean and had everything you needed. They allow dogs and only charge 15 total a night not per pet, which most places do. The grounds were very nice and the beach was close and clean. We would definitely stay here again.

Great Accomodations. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite in the main lodge. Upgraded to the lake view - definitely worth the few extra dollars. Friendly staff. Quiet setting with lots of shore line to find a remote spot. Location is very convenient for North Shore attractions.

Room Tip: Ask for the lake side

Clearly, Superior Shores Resort was named for its proximity to the Great Lake, not its accommodations or amenities. We stayed in a Burlington Bay Superior Lodge Room. The room was clean, there were enough towels, there coffee for the coffee maker. The fireplace was nice. The view was great ~ then again, you can only enjoy the view standing in front of the window. There two queen beds which each had two thin pillows, sheets and a bedspread. There was one blanket in the closet. Personally, I dislike needing to use the bedspread as a blanket because they are a pain in the neck to wash, ergo not every place washes them after every guest.

There was a nice pool and the hot tub was actually indoor-outdoor, which is very cool. The pool is in the ground level of the Executive Lodge Building, I hope it's well sound-proofed because those Lodges are several hundred dollars a night. The "beach" is a narrow strip of land along the shore with a couple of benches at the widest spot. There is one restaurant in the main area, on the other side of the woods ~ nothing at the Burlington Bay site.

All other "resort amenities" listed on the website are nearby. The golf course, shopping, boat launch, snowmobile trails, etc. are public and off-site. You can use them without staying at the "resort". Nonetheless, they charge a $9.90 resort fee. There are no canoes or kayaks for guests, no tennis court, no bonfires, not even cheap movie on a big screen TV, nothing but a pool.

Next time, we're staying somewhere else that's cheaper, or has actual amenities.

Room Tip: Book on an upper floor for the best view. Or stay somewhere else and enjoy the view from parks, scen...

First time staying at the Burlington Bay Resort of Superior Shores. Loved it !! Going midweek we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Loved the view from our 5th floor room, Very clean when we stayed, not much staff seen in this area, but pleasant in the main lodge. What did seem strange was there was no front desk staff area. They were located in the other site about a half mile or less away. Was no concern, just seemed strange to me. We had a welcome basket in our package and it was a very nice assortment of goodies. We seen the large barges/ ships go by from our room view. We had sat on the deck by the nice pool area and enjoyed the sun and view of Lake Superior. Would be hard to find something wrong to say about our stay here, guess if I had to it would be the pillows seemed small and flat ! When we go back will ask to be in this part of the resort again ! Had a great time.

We stayed for three days. We stated in a whirlpool room on the fourth floor of the Burlington Bay facility, which is newer than the main complex.

First, the good.
Great views. We came mid week and pretty much had the place to ourselves. The room has a king bed, in room 2-person hot tub, fridge, microwave, hair dryer. TV with DVD/VCR. DVD rentals at the front desk. Beautiful pool area with indoor/outdoor whirlpool. The restaurant (at the main complex) was good, we had dinner their the last night.

Now, the not so good.

1. The staff was friendly, but many of the front desk people we dealt with seem new and inexperienced. Management definitely needs to sharpen up the front end...friendly service is important, but competent service is more important. Our room was at Burlington Bay, which is a 3 to 4 minute drive back down Hwy 61. We needed a room key card reprogrammed, the lady at the desk wasn't too sure what she was doing, and the keys didn't work, so we had to drive all the way back to the main desk. A real pain...and wait in line again. A free drink or some 'perk' for our trouble would have been appreciated, but I'm not even sure the front desk is empowered to deliver excellent customer care.

2. The worst part was the lack of WiFi. I had some work to do (just a little) as did my wife, and although WiFi is advertised, and the connection to the WiFi router was great, the connection to the internet was awful. We called the front desk and they stated they did not have authorization to reset the modem or troubleshoot the WiFi, and the manager would not be back until the next morning. During our 3 night stay it never got better. I connected once for a couple of minutes, and it was incredibly slow. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE in today's digital world.

What could be better:

Automated check out. Again we had to drive over to the main lodge to wait in line to check out.

The bedding and linens. For a resort that states "The only thing we overlook is Lake Superior", they certainly overlooked comfortable beds. A king bed only has 3 pillows, we had to request a couple more pillows (which they promptly brought to the room). The linens were old and tired. Nothing luxurious at all.

Get an HD TV. Again, for a resort, we have come to expect a certain element of comfort and elegance. A standard tube TV is not it. No in room movies. Limited entertainment on a cold, windy October evening.

The price averaged over two hundy a night, I expect better.

We arrived a bit early and had no problem checking in as soon as we arrived. We were very impressed with our accomodations. We had a three bedroom Burlington Bay Lakehome. Very clean and had everything we needed to make our breakfasts and dinners. The view was amazing! We were on the top floor. Nice balcony and the beds were very comfortable. Never heard a noise from any of the neighbors and our group of 6 enjoyed the pool and hot tub. No complaints from any of us! We were too early for the Fall Colors but drove up to Grand Marais and had lunch at "My Sister's Place". Would highly recommend the place. Great food, friendly service, unique bar and dining area! It was worth the drive! Also found a diamond in the rough when we ate at Hammonds in Superior. Steak and lobster for $22.00!! Good food, friendly staff and good drinks! It was pouring rain when we went there so we did not miss not overlooking the lake.

Room Tip: If possible get a top floor room, amazing view!

I stayed with a friend at the Burlington Bay location (just down the road from the main hotel) based on others' reviews and it was a good choice. We had a lake-facing room (no balcony - which we regretted, so make sure you upgrade because it will be worth it assuming the weather is nice enough to use it). You can hear the waves from your room either way which is so nice!

The staff was very friendly! We forgot a bottle opener for our wine and they brought us a brand new one within minutes. They did the same thing again when we needed matches.

If you're going up north and want something quiet and away from it all but not necessarily in the middle of nowhere, this is the place to go!

Room Tip: 4th and 5th floors have the best view of the lake
