“Great place to bring Minnesota kids”
Reviewed 24 November 2013 via mobile

We camped in gooseberry falls over Memorial Day weekend. It was freezing! But that didn't stop us from enjoying the trails and waterfalls. We also went to nearby split rock lighthouse. Only con for us is that the bike trails are not great - offer long distance trails but nothing that loops around camp for shorter 3 to 10 mile tours of area. Park is rustic for campers but also nearby stores and restaurants for convenience.

“Stunning”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

Such a fun state park to hike adn experience the huge waterfalls close up. The hiking area is nice with hand rails in steep places. Much of the one steep side is not handicap accessible but the other side is completely. Always fun to visit year after year. we have made it a family tradition to visit many of the attractions on the North Shore each year.

“A fence to keep the deer from eating the vegetation?”
Reviewed 22 October 2013

Gooseberry Falls State Park was wonderful. We walked to the bottom of the falls then made our way up to the top. The water was flowing just beautifully. We got a laugh out of the sign on the fence that was designated to keep the deer out so they wouldn't eat the vegetation to allow it to grow yet people and dogs were allowed to trample it....quite odd. The walking paths were well maintained and provided steps where necessary. Bridges were well placed to allow access to both sides of the falls.

“Lovely trails and scenic views”
Reviewed 22 October 2013

Gooseberry Falls State Park is filled with diversity - waterfalls, woods, and great views of Lake Superior. We visited on a beautiful sunny Saturday in September and the park was crowded. However, there are many trail options to choose from and we were soon away from the more popular waterfall spots. The visitors center is excellent with a robust choice of quality gifts and information. I was particularly impressed with the selection of books, particularly those for children. This stop is definitely recommended. There is something for everyone - a casual stroll to a waterfall or a good tramp through the woods.

“Every Minnesota kid needs to go to Gooseberry”
Reviewed 21 October 2013

When I told them we are taking a mini vacation to the North Shore and they complained, that was my reason. Every Minnesota kid DOES need to go to the Falls. It's a rite of passage. I'll never forget my first time.... ignoring the fact my brother tried to push me over the edge. BTW my kids LOVED it!! They said they could spent decades there. They are a bit dramatic. Falls were nice and full. Lots of people but it didn't seem too crowded. (it was MEA weekend). Trees were passed peak but still those empty white birch trunks are still beautiful. Enjoy this "rite of passage". Minnesota has lots of offer and this is near the best!
