“Quiet, relaxing, beautiful place!”
Reviewed 19 August 2013

Absolutely loved the place! My boyfriend and I stood at the Rosewood queen suite and loved it. We had a private deck to relax, a very comfortable bed and beautiful room. The lodge is about 10min away from Two harbors, in an sort of isolated area, so you won't hear anything but nature! The place is gorgeous! The best of all is obviously the food. Pat is the greates cook ever! Pat and Joe were very friendly. They gave us tips on places and restaurants to visit. Best guides ever! We were very satisfied with our stay at SGL and will most definitely return in the future. If you look for a quiet place to relax with amazing breakfast you won't regret visiting SGL.

Room Tip: SGL is a two story lodge. The basement is the cheapest room, and the 2nd floor room is the most expe...

It has truly been a great summer with wonderful guests!
We are fortunate and thankful for people like you that join us at the lodge, visiting all the gorgeous sites on and around Lake Superior.
Come back for a winter get-a-way. The winter sports are terrific: In/out cross country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing , hiking and wildlife watching, and dog sledding nearby. Then a romantic jacuzzi awaits. What could beat that for an exciting get-a-way?

The first words out of my 86 year-old mother when we walked into the bedroom of the beautiful cabin-style B&B was, "You're going to spoil me. I feel like a queen." This was her first B&B. We stayed in the Whitetail Room so we each had our own bed. The room was lovely, pristine, and ever so comfortable. The entire lodge is filled with charm and I thought "what a wonderful place to spend the rest of your life." Pat and Joe have made a wonderful home away from home for any who come their way; they both have interesting backgrounds, and willingly share their stories with you at the most scrumptious breakfasts I have ever eaten. And even more important, my mom ate them. She generally is not happy with anything other than her normal Midwestern fare. You can't beat pleasing both ends of the spectrum. I would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat when traveling this way.

Room Tip: If you have a family, this is the only room you have available to you, but you will not be disappoin...

We decided to stay here when most affordable hotel rooms were sold out due to the 2013 "Tall Ships" tourists. We were hesitant of the distance from Two Harbors or Duluth. We thought the place was awesome. Nice big rooms. Awesome, high-tech showers (Slate tile and multi-head shower). The owners were very nice, they can give you great advice on what to do and see in the area. Breakfasts were always delicious. It is worth the drive from Two Harbors or Duluth. We would definitely go back.

Room Tip: The while tail room is on the lower level. It is cheaper (perhaps because the bathroom is not attac...

We did a great weekend getaway for our anniversary and the awesome innkeepers, Joe and Pat, made our stay extra special. The room was very nicely decorated and the bed was quite comfy. We had a peaceful time and the breakfast both days was great.

Are you looking for a place to stay close to Duluth? WELL STOP LOOKING, YOU FOUND IT. There is only one thing that matches the ambiance of a hand crafted cabin hideway and untouched forrest surroundings of the north shores...and that is the phenomenol cooking, and slice of Americana-genuine personalities that are hosts Pat and Joe.My girlfriend and I stayed in the Rosewood Queen for 3 nights so we could run in Grandma's Marathon. The Superior Gateway Lodge was constructed with the craftsmanship of caring hands. Everywhere you look, walk, listen in this lodge you literally can feel the warmth of the logs. This lodge is so crafted that the design of the woodwork makes you strip down all the stresses in life, and returns you to a more simple, humanistic attitude that helps you escape from your everyday perils. The food each morning is so unique and delicious. This is the first bed and breakfast that we had ever been to, sadly enough every single one we go to from here on out will be a giant disappointment. Unfortunatley I only get 200 characters to describe this Lodge, needless to say this place,Joe and Pat, the area, the people, grandma's marathon, are all perfect and a magical experience that you can't miss.

My fiancé and I stayed at the Lodge for 5 days, the breakfasts were truly what one would call gorme and delicious to boot! Joe and Pat are wonderful people with the best hospitality and humor anyone could ask for on a vacation. We loved staying here and could not wait to find out what breakfast had in store for us the next morning. We highly recommend this to anyone! It is about 8 min from Two Harbors with wonderful flowers and a little pond out front and a fire pit. Beautiful land and craftsmanship. We will be coming back to visit!

Room Tip: The Mahogany Suite was very good value for what you spend!

We spent three nights in this wonderful lodge using Two Harbors as a base for exploring Lake Superior from Duluth (south) to Grand Marais (north) while lending support to friends running the Grandma's Marathon. The lodge is 10 minutes outside of Two Harbors - not on the lake (or busy highway) but on 40 private acres, very quiet and very peaceful. The rooms and baths were very large and tastefully done. Breakfast was great (on marathon day the Innkeepers even set out a very early race breakfast for guests headed to the start line in Two Harbors).
