“We loved it! Can't wait to go back!”
Reviewed 16 July 2010

We stayed at Larsmont Cottages while in Two Harbors attending my class reunion. It was perfect for a little getaway with my husband. We chose the Lakeside Suite and it was perfect for two people. We loved opening the windows and listening to the waves crashing on the rocks at night. The room is not large (mostly consumed by the bed) but the bathroom makes up for it! There is good storage so we were able to unpack our suitcases to allow for more room. We were scheduled to stay three nights but added on an additional night because we were so comfortable and wanted to use the last day just to relax and really enjoy the resort. We cannot say enough about our great experience at the Cottages! We'll definitely stay there when we go "home" again.

I have extremely high expecations when it comes to travel and I must admit that this place exceeded virtually every expecation I had. I took my family for a mid week two day stay at the Larsmont during the week of the 4th of July. Our one bedroom cottage was immaculate. The pictures didn't do the inside justice; granite counter tops, ceramic and carpet floors, stainless steel appliances, huge dining room table, gas fire place, large sectional sofa, etc., etc. The location was amazing, literally 25 yards from the lake with adirondak chairs and tables available on a little bluff overlooking the lake. The bottle service was awesome! We didn't bring any wine with us, but with a quick phone call to the onsite restaurant, the staff was bringing us bottles of wine to our room and directly to the fire pit outside our cottage with a smile! The food at the restaurant is rather eclectic for a north woods restaurant and the quality of food in my opinion was just o.k. for the money. Our cottage had a grill on the patio which was great to grill brats and hotdogs for the kids. The indoor pool is very large and super clean. The outdoor whirpool/hot tub was wonderful! There are bikes available to ride around on at no cost and our daughter really liked this feature. The place had a good mix of families and couples just getting away for a few days. It was very quiet and serene. This place isn't cheap, but compared to similar resorts in the area, it wasn't way out of line. If you are looking for a super nice relaxing place to stay on the north shore, you absolutely can't go wrong with Larsmont. My family and I will definately be back.

Stayed 3 nights in a 1-bedroom cottage. Although there is a sleeper sofa in the living room, the bedroom was big enough for our two kids (6 & 3) to sleep on the floor. We liked the location b/c if the weather hadn't cooperated we were only 20 minutes from lots of indoor things to do in Duluth, but since the weather DID cooperate, we went to Split Rock lighthouse (~30 minute drive) and Gooseberry Falls (~20 minutes). Kids also spent lots of time in the swimming pool (very nice) and hot tub (not hot enough for me but plenty hot for the little ones) and trying to fill Lake Superior with rocks. The restaurant is excellent and has lots of gluten-free and soy-free options. You're just 5 miles from Two Harbors, which has an excellent grocery store (SuperOne), so if you have a kitchen, you can save $$ by making your own meals.

Criticisms (minor): 1. No playground equipment for young kids. Our kids didn't miss it, but it would have been nice for another optiopn besides throwing rocks. 2. Bathroom shower caulk was turning a bit black. Not disgustingly so, but not sparkly new either. We also found someone's sweater under a couch cushion...

Suggestions: 1. You can swim in Lake Superior at the resort, but you might want to wear swimming shoes (we forgot ours... D'oh!), as it is very rocky. For a nice sandy beach, you'll have to go to Duluth (there's a park with a great beach on both sides of the point (i.e., Park Point... go over the lift bridge to get to it) in Duluth... we stopped there on the way up to wade in the water). 2. You can also swim and wade at Gooseberry falls. There were signs that say that you do so at your own risk, but there were dozens of people wading and playing in the falls. Basically, unless there's a flash flood, you're good, so just use your brain and don't play in the falls if it might be storming upstream.

The resort was wonderful. It felt like a home away from home. The views of Lake Superior are amazing. The kids loved playing on the shore looking for rocks and watching the ships. The rooms looked exactly like the photos on line. The cottages were spotless and the staff was friendly. With all the activities available you could make an entire vacation within the resort. When we go back to the North Shore, Larsmont is definitely where we will stay.

TripAdvisor gave Larsmont a good review, and, as we often do, we ran with it. Larsmont is as advertised: right on the shores of Lake Superior, clean, comfortable room, beautiful scenery at the resort and at nearby locations. The price was right, and our package included a $75.00 meal certificate at the on-site restaurant.
If we had anything resembling a complaint, it would be regarding the menu selection (or lack thereof) at the Ledge Rock Grille Restaurant. There were a number of entrees, but almost all of them something you'd expect to find at an exclusive restaurant in Paris. That's all fine and good, but sometimes a basic steak or chicken dish would be tasty, and it's just not available. And the menu prices match the exotic fare.
All in all, a great experience, though. We plan to go back.

We loved our stay and wish we could have stayed longer.

We stayed here just one night as part of a mini roadtip in northern MN. When driving, play attention to the signs as sometimes it gets confusing. It is on a frontage road off of scenic 61 so pay attention to the signs.

We checked in at 4:30pm and our room was ready. We stayed in a lakeview studio suite. Our room was probably one of the cleanest rooms I have never stayed in. It was cute and cozy. Loved having a fridge, microwave, and a toaster in our room!

The bathroom is huge! Nice double vanity and a huge shower. We also tried out the jacuzzi tub which was a bit snug for 2 people but worked out fine,

The bed was amazingly comfortable. We were planning on getting up early and enjoying the sauna and whirlpool but we couldn't get out of bed it was so comfortable. We left the windows open overnight and could hear the waves crash against the rocks.

The room has Dish Network on its TV. Although we don't watch TV, I like having it on as background. Unfortunately, the reception would go off and on. Not a huge deal, but a bit annoying. The room also has a DVD player.

We did not take advantage of all the fun extras such as the sauna, bikes, firepits etc. This place has so much to do that you really need to stay more than 1 night to enjoy them.

There were lots of families there. It is a very family orientated place. But if coming as a couple like we did, you'll still have your privacy and enjoy it as well.

I would definitely stay here again. If staying more than a few days, consider getting the 1 bedroom so you can have a bigger kitchen and a grill.

Larsmount Cottages was wonderful. I read reviews, researched their website, and TripAdvisors website. Everything was great. The amenities were extensive, we wish we would have had more time to enjoy them (badmitton, horseshoes, bike rental-free, bocce ball, swimming pool, hot tub, etc). The virtural tours showed the rooms just as they are, clean, roomy, fireplace, whirlpool tub, giant shower...perfect for a getaway! We also had a great view of the Lake too.
