Hiawatha Beach Resort

While Leech Lake is beautiful and the area is also beautiful, we were underwhelmed by Hiawatha Beach Resort. The equipment and boats were old and worn out. There is no restaurant (just a sandwich cafe) on the premises. The pool and hot tub were just ok and overall clean considering how worn out the facilities were (no kiddie pool). They don't provide towels for either bathing or swimming and it would have been nice to know that beforehand. The high prices don't reflect the shabbiness of the facilities. We still had a nice time because we were with family but we probably won't stay here again.

The resort we had reservations at didn't pan out (no one there), so we started back-tracking towards Walker and stopped in at Hiawatha Beach Resort. We took the little cabin nearest the lake. It was September 2011 so not many people around and the lodge wasn't open like it would have been during peak season. Rates were a bit higher than I would have liked but overall it was a nice area. Our fishing guide suggested Chase on the Lake right in Walker if we were to come back again. That would be nice for convenience and pricing was actually more reasonable, but would not have the rustic charm of our cabin. Just saying! If I were to ever come back to see the loons in Walker Bay in October I think I'd just stay in town. Next time I'll dicker! Easy to access this location. Great cabins for larger parties if families would want to gather here. Boats, docks, house boat, lodge, food, booze, lots of amenities available. Nice beach area. Kayaks, canoes...great family resort.

Twenty family members stayed in cabin 16 for three nights. There were 4 bedrooms downstairs and 4 bedrooms upstairs, 2 bathrooms downstairs between the bedrooms and 2 upstairs between bedrooms. Also two large futons in upstairs loft and 2 pull-out couches in living area. It's a big cabin with a very nice fire-pit built on the corner of a huge patio block deck. We played games on there (room for bean bag toss) and there are two outdoor tables with chairs to eat at. The cabin was very bare bones though, so beware. Bring your own towels and hand soaps and paper towel. Very minimal supplies are included but the kitchen is well stocked with plates, glasses, silverware and pans. We rented a pontoon boat and the kids had a lot of fun on the water trampolines and in the pool. The hot tub didn't work well, only one jet working, so it was like sitting in a pool of hot water with no movement. Some still used it though. We did enjoy our stay here and being able to be together in a big cabin. The owner, Larry, was nice and the staff is helpful. Just be sure to bring those towels....

Room Tip: Rooms are cabin-like with double or twin beds and futons also in some of the rooms.

It's hard to express just how much fun we had at Hiawatha Beach Resort on Leech Lake! They had everything right at our finger tips...We biked one day as a family and the next day we went out on an amazing boat ride. The kids had many activities to be involved with. The best was the rocket builing and the big launch on Wednesday after they were complete... There are so many toys out on the beach that were included in our stay that we used each day. Our three and four year old had a nice size playground to play on. The grounds were well kept and beautifully decorated with flowers. This was our first time at Hiawatha and we will definently be back next year! Beautiful cabin we stayed in and had a family campo fire each night. They even had wood on site.... Oh and the service was great, the staff went out od there way to help in anyway they could. Dockboys to catch the boat and clean our fish, kitchen staff and front desk people were so polite! All in all totally worth the money! Can't wait to get back up north next year. Marie

Room Tip: Bring extra towels for the pool and hot tube, you will use them a lot....

The entire family (including a 10 year old girl, twin 16 year old boys, and 18 and 19 year old girls) had an absolute blast! It's hard to please all of them, and Hiawatha certainly did. While the lake bottom was mucky, the water was warm and the trampoline provided a lot of fun. The pool and hot tub also gave great options for things to do. Having the kayaks, canoes, and paddle boats included with the stay also gave them tons of opportunity to get out and have fun. Fishing was good, and the other campers were very nice. They accommodated our large camper very well, and we spent a lot of time around the camp fire every night. We'll definitely be back next year!

Hiawatha Resort is an amazing place to stay. I highly recommend this place to all who wants to spend time with their family. They Have a nice sized pool and a huge hot tub. They have Trampolines in the lake, it may be muggy on the surface in the lake but its still worth it my kids had a blast on there, and just for future reference bring extra quarters because your children will be in there all day if they had enough quarters to last them haha. Hiawatha is the most loving place to be the staff there is great. Whatever you want they will try to make it happen for you. The food there is great. They plan fantastic weddings to, so if you know anyone who is planning on getting married go to them. I have recommended this place to many people, and they said it was great. So if your planning on going on a family vacation for decent price. Go to Hiawatha Beach Resort in Walker, MN.

Water trampoline, kyaks, canoes, and much much more available with no charge. games and activities set up throughout the week for kids such as: rocket building, games on the lawn, pool and hot tub, beach picnic and a camfire with smores. The cabins are wonderful and are very clean. My family and I love it here. We have been coming here for 30 years and still going.
