Owner description: Walnut Grove Minnesota is the childhood home of author Laura Ingalls Wilder who penned the “Little House” series of books. The Museum consists of 9 structures telling the stories of the Ingalls' family and other early pioneers to Walnut Grove; several of which are mentioned in Laura's book "On the Banks of Plum Creek". A great family friendly environment with several hands on locations throughout the complex of buildings. Visit in July on one of 3 weekends for our Wilder Pageant and Family Festival.

In the tiny town of Walnut Grove in the middle of farmland lies a great museum for fans of Little House on the Prairie. Lots of memorabilia from the show for nostalgic fans! Several sections about the show and also a building with sections of artifacts so visitors can learn about life in the late 1800s. Wonderful gift shop with many books related to Laura Ingalls Wilder. Worth a visit if you are in southwestern Minnesota. You can also drive north a couple of miles to see the actual farmland where the Ingalls lived.

If you watched the television show "Little House on the Prairie", you will enjoy this museum. Quite a few pictures and artifacts from the show. My younger daughters enjoyed the area where they could dress up as pioneer girls. It is a 1-2 hour time to visit attraction.

This is the place to go if you or your children are fans of the Little House on the Prairie television show; they have a good collection of items from the show, along with some Ingalls artifacts and period items.

Overall, the museum is best for younger children, as there is plenty to touch and do.

While visiting family for the first time in Minnesota, I decided to take the LONG detour to Walnut Grove to visit the Wilder museum. It was a long car trip, and I kept hoping it would be worth it.

The museum was fantastic. There are 8 buildings to explore, and my family spent over two hours walking around. Only the first two buildings were dedicated to Wilder and the Little House TV series--both had lots of good info. that I never knew about the real person or the show. While very well done, I would have probably thought the drive wasn't worth it if this was all the museum had to offer.

Most of the museum, I was happy to discover, contained exhibits and artifacts describing 19th century prairie life. And all of this was truly fascinating. From how rural Americans cooked, bathed, and entertained themselves to what it was like going to a one-room school, working the land, and encountering "new technologies" like the first telephone in Walnut Grove. All very cool.

I'd highly recommend--both for those who loved the TV show, as well as general history buffs who would appreciate discovering more about what it was like for Midwestern settlers.

We wanted our kids to learn about the Prairie Land. After the Sod House in Sanborn we proceeded to the Museum In Walnut Grove. It was fun for the kids. As one of the reviewers stated, if you are a fan of the Little House on the Prairie... you will like it.
