We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay at The Carriage House B&B in Winona. Loved our dinner on the river at The Boathouse (recommended by our hostess, Heidi). Walked around the charming town of Winona and especially enjoyed being right across the street from Winona State University campus. Breakfast was great, and the hospitality at The Carriage House was excellent. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip through Winona.

Our stay in Winona at the Carriage House was phenomenal. We went for a long weekend to bike a few trails and relax. The proprietors of the Carriage House went to great lengths to make our stay very comfortable and the breakfasts were fabulous. We enjoyed the early evening get-togethers with other guests at impromptu happy hours in the porches, both inside and outside, and then before and during breakfasts. We planned a guided kayak trip, which was great (see Broken Paddle Guiding), but the unexpected events were just as good. These included being invited to a Shakespeare festival play by a couple fellow guests, attending a “Live at the Levee” music concert, wine tasting at the Elmaro Vineyard (in Trembleau), and the festivities in Lanesboro (Buffalo Bill Days) after riding the scenic Root River Trail. It was a great weekend.

The Carriage House B&B is a wonderful place to stay in Winona. We visited Winona for the first time to attend the Great River Shakespeare Festival and booked a room at the Carriage House B&B – it couldn’t have been better situated for the festival – being right across from the Winona State campus where the festival was held. We could walk to most of the festival events and performances. When we booked our room it was the last room available and was in the main house (the other rooms were in the out building – the renovated carriage house.) We loved it - it felt like we had this huge home to ourselves. The room was very comfortable and well appointed. The breakfasts were a special treat – rhubarb soup, madeleine, fresh cinnamon cake – all wonderful. They were all served in a wonderful tin-roofed dining room with an 18 foot cherry table. The hosts couldn’t have been nicer and more accommodating. The Carriage House is also a few blocks from Lake Winona which boasts running/walking/biking trails and water sport opportunities. We highly recommend the Carriage House with its wonderful location and hospitality.

This was the second time my husband and I stayed at the Carriage House Bed & Breakfast. We came back because of the beautiful accommodations and delicious breakfast, but most of all because it seemed as if we were being welcomed home like family.
Don and Heidi are superb hosts! As we drove in, Don greeted us at our car, invited us in and showed us our room. He invited us to make ourselves at home. Our room had a complimentary bottle of wine to help take the edge off a long drive.
We have stayed at many B & B's throughout MN and WI and this is by far the one we love most!

The Carriage House is a lodging treasure within the tourist treasure of Winona, MN. Winona is a beautiful, charming town on the Mississippi River, and the Carriage House is the perfect place to stay in this lovely community. The hosts, Don and Heidi, are welcoming and attend to your every wish. The guest accommodations in this oldest original carriage house in Winona are furnished with antiques, and upon your arrival, you are greeted with a complimentary bottle of wine. The breakfasts are delicious! And if you go during the summer, you can enjoy the popular productions of the Great River Shakespeare Festival. I had so much fun the first weekend I was there, I booked a room for a second visit on the spot.
