Clam Chowders out of this world as is the Curry. The ambiance suits its setup very well. Stop reading and go.

“Fantastic!”
Reviewed 4 March 2014

The Boat House is a very small, quaint restaurant/bar. It sits on the Mississippi River and has a beautiful outdoor deck. They have a small but nice selection of beer, wine and drinks and also serve soda. I have only had drinks and appetizers here, but would love to enjoy one of their unique dinners while sitting on the outdoor deck taking in the beautiful scenery. Definitely an enjoyable place to stop.

“Our favorite place in Winona.”
Reviewed 22 January 2014

This was our second visit to the Boat House restaurant. The inside seating is fairly small with around 9 tables but is quaint and charming. The patio has been enclosed with heavy plastic sheeting and would probably be fine to sit at when the wind chill wasn't below zero or on a sunny day. During the spring, summer, and fall the view of the river from the patio must be wonderful. The waitress was excellent, taking care of all tables and accommodating any special requests. They have a fairly small menu but we have enjoyed steak frites, fish and chips, and tacos. The desserts are outstanding! All of the food tasted delicious, was reasonably priced, and the amount was plentiful. They are closed on Monday + Tuesday, and are open until 8:30 on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

“Tiny Little Gem of a Place”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

There are a limited number of spots at the Boat House, but try to snag one when you're in town for dinner. We sat on the outdoor "patio", which was enclosed for the winter with a little wood stove for coziness. My dear spouse had some amazing pan-seared scallops and I had a Thai Green Curry on rice noodles. Both were fabulous. We enjoyed the modestly sized, but variety-filled wine/beer/hard cider list and the other diners were engaged in lively conversations nearby, making the small room feel very friendly and warm. Only downsides: the patio area might get chilly when the winter hits in full force and they seem to be cutting their hours to close at 8:30 or 9. Big mistake in a town where there are few late dining options.

“Quaint and delightful”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

This was a cute little place to have lunch on a nice Autumn day. It is very small and could not easily accommodate a large group. (unless it was outside on the deck) The deck and windows overlook the river, which was beautiful this time of year.

It was chilly inside, and they had both doors open for the beautiful weather. I was with two elderly people who were very chilly. They were kind about closing one door, but it still was chilly.

They appear to be minimally staffed, which can hinder fast service if that is what you are looking for. I only saw two people waiting tables. But, the food is EXCELLENT! The clam chowder was amazing. ( I'd like to have asked for the recipe) Salads were unique and presentation was very nicely done. My guests had the burger and fries,Boathouse Lucy, (half pound stuffed burger with fries) which were really good. Desserts - also amazing. The Creme Brulee was REALLY good! The banana bread offered a super big serving...almost too much to eat.

Takeout containers are biodegradable!!

Prices are a little high, but the quality was so good!
