We stayed at the BOMC for 1 night after taking the ferry from the north to south island. I would have liked to have more time here, because it really is that gorgeous, but if you only have one night, do it! The place is exclusive, as it only accommodates 34 guests and requires a 30 minute water taxi to get there. The rooms are private bungalows, large, gorgeous, all the amenities (including wireless internet in the restaurant area), and all rooms have gorgeous views of the sounds. It also is hidden within the Queen Charlotte track, so there's amazing hiking, like the 1 hour hike up the mountain to see breathtaking views and waterfalls (challenging but worth it). The restaurant was top notch- delicious, first class wine country faire all the way! Stay here for a completely unique experience.

Wow! A friend told us about the Bay of Many Coves Resort and booked two nights for us as a honeymoon gift. We had no idea what we were in for. The hotel, staff, weather, room, food, drink, stars, EVERYTHING was spectacular from the moment we set foot on the pier to the moment we left. I can't imagine a more impressive location for such a resort. Kayaks are free to use to roam around the bay (we saw all sorts of birds, jellyfish, and a fur seal) and you can hike as far into the Queen Charlotte Track from the hotel as you like. The food was delicious and the staff was incredibly friendly. They have laundry machines which you can use free of charge and a small refrigerator in the rooms so you can bring snacks (you might want to do this on an extended stay as there are only the two hotel restaurants to chose from and they can get pricey). I definitely recommend the Bay of Many Coves Resort as a splurge if you're in the area!

We stayed at this beautiful hotel for 4 nights in February. The location is fantastic and the views are wonderful. The self contained apartments are modern, spacious and clean. The staff are friendly and very efficient. 24-hour room service is excellent. The swimming pool (unheated) is small and its surrounding area disappointing. Not much to do if the weather is poor and only 4 taxis per day run into Picton in NZ summertime. However, a magical place and probably the best hotel in Marlborough Sounds.

We had two night at the resort as a bit of a 'treat' during our travels around NZ.

It certainly isn't a cheap stay, costing $500 per night for the cheapest room, but on arrival we found we had been upgraded to a more luxury cabin which was beautiful. Each self contained hut has a queen sized bed, large bathroom with excellent shower and separate kitchenette and lounge area, equipped with every kind of utensil you could need. Lovely outside decked area, and nearly every wall of the hut opened up to let light and air in. Only slight downside was the large number of cobwebs around - would have expected these to have been swept away.

The resort itself is set into the side of a mountain so it's a bit of an uphill walk to the huts, but the views are quite stunning and because it's only reachable by boat it's wonderfully uncrowded - perhaps even too quiet.

The service is relaxed (very typically kiwi) and informal, not quite 5* but certainly every member of staff we came into contact with was friendly and did their best to help. The chefs even cooked a special tomato soup for us on the first night because we had upset stomachs and couldn't dine in the restaurant.

Both the cafe and restaurant have beautiful views over the bay, and menus are varied and quite delicious. I was disappointed to find breakfast was not included in the price of the accommodation, but the cost of food was reasonable so we didn't feel too cheated.

Dinner was a higlight, really fresh ingredients, a delicious venison starter and two amazing steaks. They have won various awards for their beef and lamb and it's obvious to see why. They also have an extensive wine list, many at reasonable prices.

The small pool area is adequate, although a bigger pool with more attractive surroundings would be good. We also found the hot tub a bit dodgy because the water was brown...didn't look very appetising!

The day spa was lovely - my partner booked a surprise hot rocks massage for me which was absolutely divine. A lovely lady, beautiful massage rooms and one of the best treatments i've ever had. Not bad value for a health spa either.

Overall, a lovely stay in a beautiful resort, but could have been improved by a better pool area, a few more things to do and a bit more attention to the little touches. Would recommend.

We stayed here for 2 nights Jan/Feb 09 and it was a highlight of our trip to NZ. The surroundings are stunning and the resort's (award winning) design makes the most of them. Amazing views and wildlife around. Great food and levels of service that are extremely hard to fault, and yet the resort maintains a very relaxed unpretentious atmosphere which is very refreshing in such a high end place. Yes, it is expensive, but I would say that it is worth the money, and as previous reviewers have noted, the resort is not out to make as much as it possibly can from you - for example, I really liked that there was a well appointed guest laundry (free to use) - I am personally quite happy to do my own washing rather than pay a lot for someone else to do it. Another great idea was that the restaurant are happy to keep opened bottles of wine for you to drink over a couple of nights - this meant that we could have a bottle of red and white on our first night and finish them on the second.
Service is excellent - of particular note were Francie and Adam.
I'd rate this as one of my favourite hotels in the world and we would love to return........

I know the manager, Lisa, will hate me for using the term "5-star" but it truly is an amazing place. Apparently you have to attain certain benchmarks to acquire a international 5-star rating, such as 24-hour room service, but this place would have to be one of the best we've ever stayed in. A lot of hotels could learn a thing or two from these people.

It is a small and compact resort, so the service is just magnificent. Francie was the Duty Manager during our stay and nothing was too much trouble. In fact, for any request the answer was always "yes" and that was from all the staff members. The wait staff were excellent and we were made to feel right at home. There is nothing pretentious about this place and no matter who you are, you will be at home here. It is very relaxed but still maintains high standards of courtesy and respect and service.

There is no need for me to post any of my pictures on TripAdvisor's website, because the pictures already here will show you exactly what it is like.

The villas are beautifully simple and elegant in their design and the beds are very comfortable.

If you wanted to save money and skip having your meals here (and I sincerely recommend not missing out on the fabulous food, be it breakfast or dinner - all of it was just great), you could bring your own supplies and use the fully equipped kitchen in each villa.

One last thing, splurge and take a cruise on the M.Y. Faith. Tim, the skipper, is a great man and a most interesting person. Not to mention the boat - 1935 Scottish made, teak hull and deck, mahogany interiors. Such a relaxing way to pass a few hours.

We are already talking about how soon we can return.
