We spent 4 nights at the “Bay of Many Coves Resort” in January 2010.
The resort is located 30 min by boat from Picton within the Marlborough Sounds. You have to arrange your transfers to and from the resort yourself. We pre-booked the transfer, which we can highly recommend, because the boats are very busy and frequented in the summer season. If you want to walk parts of the Queen Charlotte Track and need a boat bringing you from the resort to your start point in the morning and collecting you from another point in the afternoon, you also need to arrange a boat for this (we chose Cougarline for all this).
On arrival staff welcomes you immediately at the boat, shows you around for some minutes and brings you to your apartment. The whole staff was very friendly.
There is a little bar near the water front that offers small dishes, drinks and coffee during the day, and a restaurant for the evenings. As vegetarians, we found some dishes on the bar’s menu, but, unfortunately, not only one vegetarian dish on the restaurant’s menu.
We asked by email for an apartment as secluded as possible, and were kindly told that it can be arranged. On arrival we found ourselves in an apartment just above the pool area, in the middle of the resort. When immediately talking to the management about this, they offered us to move to another apartment the next day. After moving on the next day, the apartment was just perfect. This was the only a bit negative thing: we would have appreciated to be in the “right” apartment right from the beginning. The apartments themselves are great: a modern and tasteful interior, lots of space, very luxurious and very clean. You can sit outside on your private balcony overlooking the peaceful and wonderful surroundings. In the early morning, there is an overwhelming bell bird choir! You are really in the middle of nature.
Be aware that you have to bring all your food and beverages with you. Besides the bar and the restaurant, there is no opportunity to buy things like, for example, water in larger amounts (if you do not want to drink from the tub) or food for cooking.
Taken together, we can recommend staying here. From our opinion, a stay of less than 2 nights is not worth taking the circumstance with the boat transfer, so if you have the time, we would recommend to stay at least 2 nights.
