My partner shouted me a day trip by helicopter to Bay of Many Coves (BOMC) for a special treat, including a three course meal with matching wine. I am very lucky. Check out the website on http://bayofmanycoves.co.nz. The day was idyllic, and we flew from Wellington over Cook Strait in calm conditions with 360 degree views of the South Coast and the Marlborough Sounds, landing on a tiny but perfectly dimentioned patch of grass where we were met by BOMC staff and escorted to the restaurant. We were looked after by a lovely waitress Sophie and had the restaurant all to ourselves. We sat like royalty looking over other visitors dining in the public cafe down by the jetty which is accessed by boat (or walkers from the Queen Charlotte Track some 2 hours up a steep hill). A dog called Merlot was chasing a tennis ball on the jetty and so were the local blue cod population when the ball fell into the water. It was a sight to see. Our menu had all the wonderful food choices, fresh tuna sashimi, venison, fresh John Dory fish of the day, and then there was dessert. My favourite was the Callebaut chocolate dessert. I didn't want to leave, and I really really enjoyed the quality and presentation of the food. This is not a cheap day out but as a special treat it is value for money. We didn't stay - returning 3 hours later, but the resort has accomodation for about 35 and can house 50 in the restaurant. It is a very high quality venue.
