“Pine top shack hits the right note”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

Stayed in the Pinetop Shack in May 2014. Loved it, loved it, loved it.

It looks like poverty style living, but it was comfortable, functional and added to the magic of the delta. If you are a Blues fan, it will make you feel closer to the music and spirits of the past that you seek.

A must stay venue for music fans with the right values in life. This is not a place for snobs.

Room Tip: We were in Pinetop, but others in our party were also very happy with our accommodation.

Yes- there is a slight smell to the shacks. BECAUSE THEY ARE SHACKS. They are old- used- many people have been there before. We stayed in the crossroads shack. The bed was super comfy, the kitchen and dishes clean, real jar of coffee instead of single serve packets, the front screened in porch was amazing, hot showers, ac and heat, lots of unique interesting reading material, instruments to play, etc. we really enjoyed reading the guest book from people's previous stays. The restaraunt just steps away was phenomenal, and the element of live music on the weekends topped it off. I intend to go back again and again.

All the reviews are spot on. This is a unique place to stay and full of photo opportunities. The office cabin was comfortable- if a bit smelly. The grass around the porch was underwater, so it made carrying luggage a bit tricky. We didn't eat here because we wanted to see ground zero ( it wasn't that great so we left early). When we got back to the bar we were told that they wouldn't be doing much after 9:30 and would we like to close our tab. So we had an early night -oh well.

Our expectations for the Shack Up Inn were very high, Boy 'O' Boy it lived up to that and more!! We stayed in the Dogtrot Shack over the railway lines which was great, rustic, clean, great porch
even had coffee maker. Everyone one was so friendly and made us feel very welcome, the night we stayed a workshop for Bass and guitar was going on in the Juke. We sat in on this which was great as they then had a jamming session Brilliant. Next morning in the Lobby fresh coffee and doughnuts were provided at no charge!! which we didn't expect this was a really nice touch. Well done to owners Gus and Bill you have really got it right. Our only regret was that we didn't stay longer, Next time we will.

As the website says “the Ritz it ain’t”! I thought this was the best of the pick in Clarksdale. We stayed 1 night mid-week in the Fullilove Shack. Rustic and authentic indeed but provided all the basic necessities and then some (fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, etc). The staff were friendly and helpful, and checkin was quick and easy. Really is great value for money. It was fun to stay here, somewhere quirky, unique and off the beaten track. I can’t fault the place because it’s as advertised and love their honesty/humour on their website. But nothing happening the night we were there and no one around, bar closed 8pm, seriously bored. Downtown is about 10 mins drive and nothing much happening there either. A restaurant or café on the property would be a great addition.

I had seen this place in a travel magazine a few years ago and vowed to go there. When looking for vacation ideas I googled "Unique places in Mississippi" and lo and behold, there it was, The Shack Up Inn. We spent two week nights there in the "Sunflower" shack. If you are looking for luxury, this is not the place but what a fun experience! It's like a step back in time to the "Tobacco Road" era. Our shack was delightful, there was always a nice breeze on the porch.
We had complimentary coffee and donuts in the lobby in the mornings even though our kitchen in our shack was stocked with coffee, sugar and creamer. The restaurant had just opened the first night we were there but we opted to go into town to eat.
The Sunflower is across the tracks from the lobby. I think there would be more action if you stayed in a shack over there but there was a guitar camp going on and they were all booked.
This would be an especially fun place to go with a bunch of friends as there is a great firepit area to sit around and enjoy the breeze. The gift shop is quite nice as well and the staff were all friendly and helpful. I would go back if ever in that area again.

Room Tip: Very quiet and peaceful across the tracks from the lobby, more action on lobby side of tracks.

This place is interesting & unique. Photographers dream! Loved the experience... We also went to Ground Zero, Morgan Freeman's Club. We met a couple from Wales. The mayor of Clarksdale sat with us and made photos with us. Fun to ride around town and just look around.
