We were invited to their grand opening several years ago and have stayed there several times a year thereafter--the housekeeping has always been excellent. Ditto for their staff.

I went with a bunch of friends and it was such an unbelievable disappointment. The rooms were way outdated and looked like they haven't been changed in forever. It wasn't dirty, but I sure didn't feel "immersed in luxury" like the site said. The food was really gross, like buffet style and cold and just yuck. Pretty good word to describe the whole trip. Yuck.

Had a comped room, which was very nice, but lacking. No room safe (very dangerous for a casino hotel). Lacked a comfortable chair, standing lamp was in the corner by itself.

NO SWIMMING POOL!........I had withdrawels, I need the swimming pool to regroup my thoughts of gambling strategy.

Room was not sound, was able to hear the noise in the hallway.

Room had a view of the side of the hotel building, but we did see sun. Had a refriderator and coffee maker. The buffet was the best.

I would return to the casino but not the hotel. Casino was very smoke filled.

Wednesday was Senior day and there were a lot of elderly people there gambling and a half priced meal.

No wonder why this place is not listed in the AAA Tour book and their web site!

We come to Island View just about every weekend and we consider this casino and hotel superior to the others on the gulf coast. The staff are wonderful and always go out of their way to make our visit a pleasant one.

The Island View advertises that it has the nicest rooms on the coast . . . this was true immediately after Katrina, but not anymore. What used to be a decent casino has gone downhill in the past two years due and is sorely in need of a makeover.

The hotel rooms are large and spacious, but not well cared after. The bedlinens are threadbare (literally) and even the non-smoking rooms smell. The scent of floral carpet deodorant in the hallways in rooms (in an unsuccessful attempt to mask the smell) is overpowering. Stray hairs (presumably from a previous guest) were all over the bathroom and I even found one in the coffeepot. The water in the room that I stayed in was yellow and reeked of sulphur. I brushed my teeth with water from a casino water bottle. When I told the front desk about the sulphur they shrugged and said "okay" and offered no explanation--like it was a complaint that they had heard numerous times.

The casino floor itself isn't the greatest, but has a lot of penny slots and low-priced table games if you're not a high roller. The casino comps are decent and point multiplier promotions are frequent during the week. If you play a decent amount every few months you can get free rooms and food for your stay.

The question is . . . how bad is the hotel room, really? Is it worth staying if the room is FREE? I'm giving the Island View a "Poor" instead of a "Terrible" overall rating because I have seen worse . . . and can you really rate something a 1 out of 5 if you didn't pay anything for the room? It's better than sleeping on the street. However, you can get MUCH nicer rooms for free 40 minutes down the road in Biloxi. My advice is to pass Gulfport on by and gamble in Biloxi until the Island View starts some serious renovations.

Stayed 6/9-6/11 and had a fantastic time! The room was large, the bed comfy. Private, beautiful furniture, flat screen tv, big tub, coffee-maker in the room, very quiet in the room at night. The casino smelled like smoke, but not the hotel room or halls.
The casino is large with plenty of table games. Most of the dealers were friendly, and the waitresses were pretty quick. Location was perfect, the room was great, service was absolutely wonderful, and we will be back!!
Overall, a perfect vacation!
