Club Ebony is a blues club, a lineal descendant of a classic Mississippi "juke joint." We had read about it and planned a stay in Indianola as the last stop in our own Delta blues tour, following several days in Clarksdale. We were not disappointed. B.B. King was not in town, but the house band headed by the late David Lee Durham was featured that evening, and they were very good. They usually opened for B.B. when he was there,
Although we were the only white people present (until a few obviously drunk and rather offensive young men, whom we described as "plantation owners," wandered in after a while), we were made to feel quite at home. The music was great! We were very glad we made this one of our stops; it was probably the best live music locale on our trip. Unfortunately, David Lee Durham, who had led a remarkable life, died last year - a real loss!
