Staff is extremely friendly and the food is great! The owner is ever present and making sure you are happy and comfortable. They always have good music from local musicians.

“Great food at a great price.”

We had the shrimp euteffa and it was out of this world. The people are great and fast. I highly recommend eating here again and again.

“Darwells , what happened ? ”
Reviewed 4 July 2014 via mobile

We had eaten at Darwells twice before and it was absolutely out of this world . We were back in the Long Beach area and couldn't wait to eat there again . What a surprise and disappointment it was . The restaurant has been turned over to a bunch of kids, the attitude and service were deplorable . No owner, no manager, just a lot of young people that had rather be somewhere else . We noticed a moldy, musty odor around the restrooms that was very difficult to get past . The food portions had greatly diminished and the prices were exorbitant .Since they get your money at the door, you are pretty much trapped regardless of your experience . I hope they get their act together soon because this was a great place to eat at once upon a time .

“Mediocre at best”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

Decided to try Darwell's on 7-3-14 after seeing such great reviews.
The place was very clean and the service was friendly and attentive.
I ordered the famous crawfish etouffe. It was hot, and pleasantly presented. It was good and with my rating of B-. No complaints but it was certainly not up to the ratings made by others. I know that it has been reviewed by some famous people and perhaps that is what is compelling much of other's rave reviews. I just did not see it as a dish to go out of my way to get.
Although I ordered the small portion, I felt it was a bit overpriced for that size.
My wife ordered a small spaghetti with meatball (singular). Although acceptable, it was certainly nothing to write home about. She rates her dish a B- minus also. The sauce was nothing special and could have likely been anything out of a jar off the supermarket shelves. Did I mention there was only one meatball?
We each received a very small (approximately 2 1/2") piece of toasted French bread with our meals. Each had a small yellow spot in the center. We requested some additional butter on the side thinking that we would receive a few extra pats. Instead, we received one small serving of liquid butter for the two of us. It was a bit difficult to spread with the one single knife the two of us were provided for shared use. The only option was to try to pour it accurately from the small container. We were not too successful in our efforts. We much prefer the more traditional method of spreading butter on bread with a knife. We find it is much easier and far less messy.
For the $20 (minus drinks, etc.) plus that we spent, we could have had a far more enjoyable and more filling lunch for far less money at good old Subway.

“Absolutely awesome!”
Reviewed 3 July 2014 via mobile

We've had family visiting from out-of-state, so Darwell's was on the must-do list and let me tell you, no one was disappointed!

With the wide selection of food available on the menu, everyone was able to find something that appealed to their taste. Even the uber picky teenager was pleased with the selection and dining experience!

Three of five persons chose the brisket, one person had chicken parm, and the last individual had red beans and rice. The brisket was simple perfection; the chicken parm was well seasoned and expertly prepared down to the al dente pasta; and the red beans and rice were flavorful and creamy!

Every tummy was content and happy by the time we were ready to leave. The only thing that could possibly enhance and improve today's dining experience would have been a nap!

Darwell's is a tad off the beaten path but it's an absolute must-do whenever your in the New Orleans area and is definitely well worth the time and roadtrip.
