“Great Place To Stay”
Reviewed 28 July 2009

If you are near Ocean Springs and need a place to stay, I would highly recommend the Gulf Hills Hotel! A very nice change from your chain hotel. The hotel is very secluded but just a short distance off I-10. White wicker rockers and hanging flower baskets greet you as you enter the lobby. The hotel, built in 1927, has a lot of history and Elvis was a regular summer guest back in the 50's. They have a small gallery of Elvis photos and records upstairs from the lobby. The rooms were nice and clean and the beds very comfortable. The pool, located in the back, is very large.

But no matter how nice the hotel, it's really the staff that makes all the difference. And the staff here made the stay all the more enjoyable! Randy and Becky were very helpful and made you feel like you were old friends. If you're lucky, try to visit with Randy if she has a few free minutes. She has many wonderful stories about the hotel and past guests!

If you golf, the pro shop is about 100' from the front lobby.

In the mornings, the hotel offers a very nice continental breakfast to help get the day started.

We look forward to our next stay.

After a 400something miles drive from Chattanooga down to Mobile we didn´t like Mobile at all. So we travelled on to Ocean Springs in desperate need of a nice place to stay at for the night.
We asked a local shop owner and he recommended the Gulf Hills Hotel. At the dask we met Randy. She was such a nice Lady and welcomed us perfectly!
The room was good, affordable and housekeeping worked well too. So it happened we stayed three instead of one night!
If you are there ake a trip to Gulfport and take the Ferry to Ship Islands to enjoy a beautiful day at the beach! Don´t forget a cap and Sun Lotion. The sun was hot!!! Even in April!
Hotel: Not cheep but perfect for recreation, because it is in a very quite location. Rooms are clean and have all amenities you need. As the name says it is perfect for people playing Golf. (We don´t). Evening walks in fresh air will lead you through a nice neighbourhood, but still heavily hit by Kathrina! Very friendly staff!!! Thank you Randy!!!

The Gulf Hills Hotel was the perfect spot to stay while my son and daughter attended the University of Southern Mississippi's J.L. Scott Marine Education Center Sea Camp for the week. The room had all of the basics plus a small fridge and microwave, which we put to good use. A free cot was made available so my children didn't have to share a bed. The hotel sits on the bayou with a nice swimming pool in back and a golf course in front. A continental breakfast was offered with enough choices to keep my kids happy. We spent 5 quiet nights at this hotel and had no troubles at all. Don't forget to eat at the Mellow Mushroom. A wonderful pizza place just a short drive away.

A little known fact is that this hotel was once the summer home to Elvis himself. It's tucked away in an upscale neighborhood in Gulf Hills, a few minutes from the shore and surrounded by a fabulous golf course that meanders through flowering woods and past scenic bayous. This is a gret place if you love to play golf. The hotel is not your typical highway pitstop into town.
My husband and I were delighted to be able to take morning walks that included photography shoots of bayous, charming southern birds, and beautful cedars and cypress along the way. It was extremely relaxing.
It's a mile and a half from Ocean Springs, a very artsy community with many fine restaurants, shops and two great museums. For those who love to gamble, across the bridge, there are miles of casinos and white sand beaches in Biloxi on Beach Road only five minutes away.
As for the hotel itself, the rooms were a comfortable size, with adequate closet and drawers, as well as convenient storage shelves for suitcases. The beds were so comfortable that we were able to sleep through the tail end of a thunderstorm. We did have a full kitchenette at our disposal right in the room! The service was excellent and the staff was very friendly.
To dine in the breakfast room over waffles, fruit, rolls, bagels, cereals, yogurt, hot coffe or teaa with juice, etc. was so special that we felt absolutely no need to head over to the on-site restaurant called Rudy's, which is open for lunch and dinner as well. We were quite busy from sunup to way past sundown that we never thought to order from room service either, but it's offered.
We thought we'd be stuck in this little motel- like place when we arrived, and it's true, the appearance of the walkways could use a little repair, however, the numerous white wooden rocking chairs, hanging baskets, the beautiful lobby and the large blue swimming pool out back, with views of the bayou and golf course out front certainly made us want to return for some relaxation next year.
