One of the high points of our Mississippi trip, this off the beaten path battlefield park was well worth finding. A very informative Park Ranger gave us a wide range of information on the area and the Civil War battles to control the river. The museum and grounds were first class. There is access to the river with a nice view. An eazy drive down from Vicksburg and we found it with no problem using the GPS. It cost us $5--$2 for a senior, $3 for a young wife.

We loved this park. Very we'll maintained and picturesque. Couple this with a tour of Windsor Ruins for a good historical tour of south Mississippi.

One of the best military parks I have been to. They sell either one hour of three hour CD tours--get one of them.

Well worth the drive to see this location. About 6 or so miles Northwest of Port Gibson. A wonderful little museum where you can get the presentation on this historical site and explore the array of items that await. Outside there are several walking tours over lovely grounds and also a short driving tour that will take you up the hill to see the cemetery, several rifleman trenches and cannon positions. If you're ready for a real climb, there is an observation tower that will allow you an overview of it all. On the tower: Be prepared for lots of stairs. Quiet park with tent camping sites and full hook-up RV spots available.

Stop in on your way from Vicksburg to Natchez or spend the night camping in your tent or RV. There are several sites to see and all are worth looking at. You can easily see it all in a half day depending on how long you linger in the museum. If you're going to camp you'll need to arrive before 5 or call ahead - they lock the gates at 5. Ranger Jim is very helpful and friendly. The cost was $23 for an RV which included the museum and sites. There is an upper and lower campsite as well as areas just for tent camping. We picked up several TV stations at the lower site but not all the major networks. Ask in the museum/office and they are happy to give you a map to other attractions in the area. We also made a stop at Windsor Ruins which doesn't offer a lot, but is impressive and worth the 15-20 minute drive. (and free)
