This place was recommended to us by locals and it didn't disappoint, some reviews are harsh, we waited 15 minutes, Party of 8, greated promptly, ordered and timely received food, fresh, good omelet and fresh hashbrowns. Definitely give this place a visit.

Went in this weekend with the family...I've been ordering their fried fish which usually is GREAT but this time it just wasn't that great. It wasn't fried crispy like it has been...granted they were a little busier than usual....2 breakfasts ordered and they sat in the window until all the food came out, including a steak AND my fish. They have a little bit of trouble getting all the food out at the same time. Ok so eggs were cold. Steak was good but the young waitress forgot the salad to go before the steak and we had to ask for it to go. Something was said to the waitress about the eggs and all and she was a tad snippy. Said something to the owner/manager and he didn't say anything...not sorry, not we'll do better...nothing! Sooooo, it'll be a while before and IF we go back. I'm a tad disappointed because I really liked eating there.

If you're wanting to step back in time to the 1950's, this is your place. The breakfast and lunch menu is packed with all of the things you'd expect - pancakes, bacon, grits, chicken-fried steak, fried chicken. All of it is good, although if you're looking for something healthy, you'd probably better go elsewhere.

The vintage style of an old downtown cafe with a lot of style. The service was great and the food was excellent.

How long is the appropriate time to wait for your meal before you get up and leave? We arrived at the Starkville Cafe at 9:50 a.m. Sun. after church. We waited 10 minutes for a table (not too bad). We waited 55 minutes for our meal (real bad!) Our waitress left our menu requests at the edge of our table with the price circled right after she took our order! We thought that was rather peculiar. 50 mins. later she came back and looked at our receipt--to remember what we ordered? Perhaps she forgot to turn it in to the cook!

In the meantime another waitress came by 3 times to refill my husband's coffee and kept telling us that the food would be worth our wait. Well--it wasn't! My scrambled eggs were not mixed up enough and no milk was added to make them fluffy. They were an unblended fried egg! My hash browns were worse! They were not cooked through! And lukewarm! The bacon was greasy! What a waste of $21.

So after 10 min. wait and 55 min. wait and 10 min. to eat--and 10 min. to walk to car, drive to college, park and get into stadium--1hr.25mins. later we got to the game late. Missed the opening pitch--missed the whole first inning! You would think 9:50 to 11:00 would have been plenty of time to eat breakfast before the game. Not here! Never going back!
