A total gem. Bradridge Farm epitomises all those ideas of being in the countryside which one dreams about but are impossible to find. Here it is. Set well away from main roads, but easily accessible from all directions along typical Devon high-hedged lanes, the handsome creeper-clad mid-Victorian house offers a real welcome. Bernard and Angela own the working farm and Angela runs the B and B side of things. I had previously had a kind email from her inviting me to arrive much earlier than advertised as I was leaving my car in Launceston (11 minutes away) for its annual service at 8.30. Angela was already waiting for me as I got out of the car and ushered me into a home rather than a house offering b and b. The two breakfast rooms feel more like a huge living-room and library either side of a wide entrance hall. The house has such a calm and serene atmosphere inspired by the unspoilt architecture. I was offered coffee and cake and shown to my well furnished, airy clean bedroom with its smooth-sliding original sash windows opening over extensive views and a cleverly adapted en suite bathroom and shower all with original features.
A special mention must be made about Angela but it is difficult to write anything which hasn't already been said before many times in the other reviews. Perhaps it is more appropriate to say that it would be extremely hard to find someone as naturally genuine and welcoming as Angela whether in her overalls on the farm collecting the free-range eggs early in the rain, or actually producing the excellent breakfast and chatting with humour (not in overalls!).
This house is part of a working farm where hens, chickens, ducks, geese and other unknown species abound and can be seen scratching about, sometimes adventuring further afield to be found amongst the massive glorious hydrangeas in the mature gardens.
You will probably be met as I was by delightful friendly sheep dogs. They are irresistible and enjoy playing ball as well as playing with the local ginger cat. They are fantastic workers too!
I spent four nights here and have recommended it to many people already. This a very quiet haven which commands the respect it deserves. I will be returning before very long. The farm is central to the north coast resorts of Bude and Boscastle, and equally, Dartmoor and Tavistock to the south with many pubs and inns to all points of the compass.
