“Wedding”
Reviewed 15 December 2013

Stayed two nights as it was my niece's wedding. Had family room for the four of us. Very comfortable. Staff exceptionally helpful and friendly. Couldn't do enough to ensure a great day for the couple and for the guests. Food very good.

Room Tip: Rooms 12 to 14 are closest to the main building as rooms are in bungalows a little walk from the Gol...

Thank you very much for your kind comments and generous review. We organise many Theme Nights throughout the winter months, and this is the first time that we have selected Moroccan as the theme. It turned out to be a super night, the highlight surely being our "belly dancers". We hope to see you again soon!

I just organised a weekend here for 14 keen golfers and have to pay what a great place this to go for weekends golf break. The hotel was great, maybe the rooms are a bit small but they are very clean and tidy and your only in there to sleep and shower anyway ! The service in the hotel was excellent all round and all the people we dealt with where more than helpful so well done to all them. The food was excellent and far exceed our expectations of what we expected bearing in mind what we had paid, everyone in our party commented what good value it was. You pre ordered your food in the day which meant it all came together and was hot which was great, my only slightly moan would be there was no mention of a £2 charge for sauces which came with the steak if you ordered it, but perhaps I'm being picky. The breakfast was a buffet style which is just what you need after a heavy night on the beer the night before ! The course itself is great and a really interesting one to play, we played it Friday, Saturday & Sunday and loved every minute of it, all of our party said they would happily come back and play it again, it was also in good condition so hats off to the green keeping staff who are also doing a great job. If your looking more like great value golf break them definitely come here as you will not be disappointed. Well done to everyone at Trethorne and keep up the fantastic work you are all doing : )

Just got back from a weekend away golfing with the lads and couldn't have hoped for a better venue. I was a little worried after reading some of the other reviews but went with an open mind. So here is a summary of my experience:
1) All of the staff we encountered were incredibly helpful and friendly, first class customer service. The management team should be very proud of their team.
2) The food was fantastic with a full menu to choose from including steaks. Preordering meals earlier in the day resulted in all meals being brought out together, hot and perfectly cooked to your specifications. My only (small) criticism is however on the preorder form they asked for how you would like the steak cooked and which sauce from a choice of 3 you would like, no mention of an additional cost of £2 for the sauce. So whilst this is only a small thing it came as a surprise when checking out.
3) The golf course was very interesting. Not the type you would get bored playing lots. A good challenge set in a lovely location. A decent challenge for all levels, with plenty of risk and reward opportunities. One criticism of the course though would be a couple of the greens were a bit scabby. A small electric fence or similar deterent would help prevent the geese digging holes in the signature 8th hole.
4) The rooms were adequate, a little on the small side but fit for purpose. The walls are a bit thin meaning you could hear other slightly inebriated gents snoring upstairs.
Overall a great weekend at a great venue and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this Trethorne to anyone else.

Having just spent 4 days and 6 games of golf with 11 friends - i can highly recommend this place for a golf break - we will all be returning next year.

I would not recommend doing 4 days and walking - but as we did it with buggies it was fantastic. The service in the bar and restaurant was excellent - value for money was also fantastic.

The rooms we very comfortable and very clean.

The golf course is a very varied and exciting course - which becomes better after a few rounds and after learning a few of the more complicated holes. If you are a average golfer like myself then i advise bringing a few extra balls.

Recently stayed with group of golfers. Course in good nick and quite difficult. Lodges nearest to hotel very good and immaculate. Those furthest away left a lot to be desired - some rooms being scruffy with showers dirty, curtains damaged, no towels or milk on arrival and generally not up to scratch. Usual breakfast with eggs etc cooked to order -ok. On the whole evening meals good without being outstanding but good value. Waiting staff were excellent being both cheerful and efficient. Overall value for money but the areas mentioned above need sorting out. Tip - ask for room away from the noise of traffic on main road!!

Room Tip: Ask for room away from traffic and in lodge near the main hotel.

Thank you for your feedback, and kind comments regarding our staff. Observations regarding the cottages furthest from the clubhouse are duly noted, with these rooms identified for refurbishment during the 2013/2014 off season.

Regarding the comment about the "usual breakfast", I would point out that we do provide a full range of both cooked and continental options, including fresh fruit, dried fruit for cereals, croissants, pain au chocolate, omelettes, smoked fish and porridge.

golf range disallows drivers and fairway woods. I suppose this was necessitated by idiots and their wild hitting, so there's no point to the practice! sorry, but maybe a handicap certificate could be shown and under 16 allowed those clubs!

I am afraid that I don't either understand or agree with this review. Drivers and woods are prohibited from the Driving Range not because of ability, simply because the range is only 215 yards long and therefore presents a Health & Safety risk for those players on the 18th fairway if drivers are permitted. It has nothing to do with "idiots and their wild hitting" - in fact, quite the opposite. This review has been classified as "poor" but in our opinion wholly unjustified.
