“Very expensive”
Reviewed 1 October 2013 via mobile

The food is very expensive for what you get , I had a mix grill which was ok ish but the girlfriend had surf and turf which had 3 prawns and a 8 ounce steak for 18 pound , very poor and over priced , and to top it they can't cook frozen chips very well , so save your cash eat elsewhere

We stayed for 6 nights in early September 2013. After a 5 hour drive, it was great to sit down in a nice clean room. Although above a pub, the silence was great.

We ate in the pub for 3 evenings and also having the Sunday lunch, which we would recommend to anyone staying, fantastic choice and beautifully cooked, all served up in a great atmosphere.

It's a good place to base yourself for exploring Devon and Cornwall with Shaun and Wendy being perfect hosts.

We booked a 3 night stay at the Countryman on the 27 of August, and decided on the Family room and a twin room.on arrival we were shown our rooms and they were clean and tidy and well equipped. The inn has just been put under new management and Shaun and his wife are a very nice couple with many year's experience in the pub/inn business. They have already started to improve the atmosphere and the whole experience of what staying in the inn should be like.we had no complaints and would book a holiday their again, its location for exploring Cornwall is great as you are only a short drive away from some beautiful scenery and beaches. We had a meal at the inn on two separate night's one was better then the other one but I am sure it will improve. Keep up the good work Shaun .

I reviewed this pub last year and revisited to see if things have changed. They have, but not for the better. The steak and ale pie was unrecognisable as a pie with a very burnt crust and a dry and tasteless filling. Soggy veg. The salmon in white wine with pasta was inedible. The fish was dry and the white wine sauce tasted like a cleaning fluid. Vile. The service was abysmal. I still cannot believe that the waiter served such a disgusting meal to us with a straight face. Never again.

What a superb restaurant and Inn. we stayed for 2 nights and it was an absolute pleasure. We eat in the restaurant both nights and Wednesday's meal was amazing.... the room was a little small but adequate and comfy. we would seriously recommend this as a place to stay.

have not been here for awhile and as there had been some big hyp about the new restaurant we thought that we would give it a go. Lunch time menu is not much different, ordered chicken with sweet chilli and tzatsiki dressing sandwich, which was very nice. However had to wait 35 minutes for two sandwiches. There was a group of about 10 people, but its a big place and should be able to cope with this number without keeping others waiting. Would we rush back to try other dishes - probably not.

Had a lovely meal in the new restaurant and the ribs and desert was amazing. Enjoyed the cheese board and being able to relax in the bar after the meal. Breakfast was good and the atmosphere unhurried which was perfect to unwind after a busy week.
