Only ok not like other holiday inns

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 31 May 2017via mobile
This hotel is not a treat it's a night away from home on business, nothing special and not like other holiday inns I have stayed at eg Watford, Milton Keynes, kenilworth........

It should be rebranded Holiday Inn Value Hotel.

Bar no atmosphere and like a corridor
Restaurant more like a cafe in decor and menu options
Under cooked sweet potato fries
Room smelt like a toilet
Bed linen (valance) not pressed and greying
Walls and ceilings like tissue paper so noisy(ask for room on second floor)
Lock on door didn't work
Individually nothing major but combined it is

Have stayed here a few times as my head office is close by but unfortunately after this loyalty points or not will have to switch allegiances

Stay here if you have to but not because you want to!

We travel frequently in the UK and mostly use Premier Inns, which we are addicted to - they're great. On this trip, however, we wanted a hotel close to the A1M in County Durham and this hotel was the best value price wise. We were lucky that it wasn't too busy on a Sunday night. The reception area is extremely light, airy and spacious and stretching out in the bar for a beer, watching the setting sun was a real treat. The room was perhaps the best I have found in a motorway hotel in the UK - better quality furnishings, towels and bedding. Despite being very close to A1M juction 59 we heard no outside noise whatsoever.
Breakfast was well supplied with hot and cold treats, again amongst the best we've seen, and the staff were very attentive. I particularly liked the decor, which is perhaps quite new - in fact I'd suggest to Holiday Inn that they redesign all their motorway hotels exactly like this one.

Room tip: We used ground floor and the room was silent (no motorway noise).

Arrived at 10pm after a long 6 hour journey through thunder storms and lots of road works we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who checked us in fast and efficiently Our room was very nice and large with tea and coffee making facilities which was appreciated after such a long journey although more milk portions would be appreciated in the room ready but after a trip to reception this was sorted After a good night sleep it was time for breakfast this was a little bit disappointing although there was staff present in the restaurant you had to find them if you required anything for eg tea or if you wanted different eggs to what was out.Overall all the holiday inn was adequate for our stop over and we would use them again

Had a comfortable stay at this hotel. It is conveniently located right next to the motorway, but this Junction has limited options for dining. Your choices are limited to the hotel restaurant/bar or fast food. The room was clean and comfortable, but lacked power outlets near the bedside, and I felt the air conditioner did not adequately cool the room.

I chose it due to the location for business.
However the Wi-Fi is atrocious here it drops out more than it's in. That's unacceptable in a hitel so I chose to go to the McDonald's about 400 yards away and use theirs.
The food is very basic they can't even do a Caesar salad which part of iceberg lettuce do they not get when you get a bowl of limp leaves and rocket which isn't a Caesar salad.
There are other hotels in the same price range you would be much better off using.

I use holiday inn frequently and this one absolutely is one of their worst ones.

We stayed here for 3 nights over Easter. The staff were good, really friendly and helpful. The restaurant coped well with 26 of us in our group. Our room was large and well equipped and the bathroom was fine.
The only problem we had was NOISE from the rooms above us.
We had a ground floor executive double room and we
Could hear everyone above us walking around. I did report it to reception but they were unable to change our room. I think the problem was with the construction of the floors because we had two different families above us and all 3 nights were noisy - until they settled down to sleep !!
Decent hotel and staff were good BUT if we can't get some peace and quiet in our room it's not a good place to stay.
Sorry but we wouldn't stay here again.
