“Perfect little teashop”
Reviewed 5 April 2014 via mobile

My fussy mother-in-law has found this to be a delightful, clean teashop. She has made multiple visits and found it to be politely staffed, and the traditional home-cooked food is always tasty. What makes this a delightful establishment to visit is the lady who welcomes you; sincere and genuine in how she interacts with both regulars and new comers alike.
So very pleased that this teashop is open.

“Lovely little tea shop”
Reviewed 3 April 2014

Having been out and about in the area with my family, we called into the country tea shop for lunch. The staff were very attentive and friendly. We ordered our food and we're delighted the standard and portion sizes. The staff member ( who we latter found out was the owner) was very friendly and chatty, the food was excellent and can 100% say will defiantly call in again and will be recommending this place to friends, family & work colleagues

“Food was average, the whole place needs a good clean with bleach”
Reviewed 22 February 2014

We visited the cafe last Friday. It look nice from the outside but on the inside it is dated and dirty. Cobwebs in the corners and dirty, mouldy woodwork and windows. Horrible carpet tiles on the floor. It's a bit oldly worldly but not in a neglected sort of way.
We ordered lunch. I went to the toilet and the smell the the hallway was overwhelming, it looked and smelt dirty and damp. A old net curtain hangs on a door at the back, and the toilet is disgusting. No hot water in the dirty wash hand basin and a very dirty brown towel to dry your hands. Walls, floor and pipes all covered in thick dirt and grease. I tried not to touch any thing.
Can't imagine what the kitchen area would be like.
I wished we could just leave but I did not want to make a scene.
It is a real shame as Staindrop beautiful historic village and it could be a lovely destination cafe to visit. There are not many other places to eat in Staindrop.
The owners need to visit some of the cafés in Castle Barnard to see how it is done well or call in the Restaurant inspector. It would be a really shame if it had to close down, I don't think we would stop there again unless it was cleaned up.

“In search of lunch in Staindrop”
Reviewed 28 October 2013

We had just completed a walk around Staindrop and looked for a pub lunch but none to be found, the restaurant looked more cafe than restaurant, we asked if they did lunch! The answer was yes and we were positively surprised by the choice and range of food from basic afternoon teas to full lunches. The portions were generous and of good quality and the coffee mug was regularly topped up and included.

The bill was just over a round number and they rounded it down, which typified the attitude of the attentive staff.

Well worth a visit.
