Travelling to and from between our house renovation and temporary accommodation meant we passed through Tourtoirac over the course of several weeks before spotting this restaurant. We decided to give ourselves a treat and stop one evening for a meal. It's in a lovely setting by the river and a stones throw from the historic abbey and interesting caves in the village.
We were not disappointed. The food was typical of the area, well cooked and nicely served. The welcome was very warm and the service friendly and helpful. The menu prices were very reasonable.
At that time of the year it's only open for evening dining on Friday and Saturday but it was worth waiting the weekend.

A cold and rainy day in February isn't the best time for anywhere. And this restaurant would be a lot more attractive in the summer. The outside isn't too encouraging, but the dining room is pleasant and the couple running it are friendly and went out of their way to accommodate my vegetarian friend. Apart from us, only locals were eating the daily set menu which was very generous. Soup, quiche Lorraine, sauerkraut, dessert. Very good value for money. I would happily go there again. In fact I discover that my mother has been there three times since these people took over a year ago.

What an amazing setting by the river. Our waitress was amazing. She couldn't have tried any harder to keep our party of 7 happy, with 3 demanding children. A wonderful evening! X

This the the sort of restaurant you dream of finding in the depths of rural France. Unpretentious, even simple in decor, but with menus of fresh local produce cooked with flair. The poached eggs with foie gras was an unexpected gastronomic delight. On fine days you can sit at tables overlooking the river drifting by.

One wonders why some passing trade is drawn into the brash, microwave and deep fry chip shop on the same square. You just need to sniff the air and the burnt oil from Le Bistro to convince yourself that their cheap prices are down to frozen, bought in, ready to heat TV dinners!
