We was on our way to St Joseph, Mo and seen the sign on the highway and decide to stop. Everything was closed but the Iron Horse. OMG is all I can say. The food was so delicious and the homemade bread n homemade desert was wonderful. The service was wonderful. Tim really knows how to cook chicken breast on the grill just perfect. The service was perfect and everyone was so friendly. We want to go back sometime soon.

My family recently dined at the Iron Horse and our experience was wonderful. We all agreed that this was, hands down, the best place we have eaten at for years. The hospitality was exceptional and the service was excellent. The food was outstanding and everything was prepared to perfection. The homemade bread, cheesecake, and pies are succulent and virtually unbeatable. We are already planning our return visit with friends!

Spent a very enjoyable weekend at the Iron Horse Hotel in Blackwater, Missouri. That is half the story really, the other half being the town of Blackwater itself. This community is really down to earth and friendly. If you like good food, want to get away and recall small town America then treat yourself to the Iron Horse. On the other hand, if you like airport food, traffic jams, car alarms at two in the morning then don't bother - Blackwater is not for you. Don't look for a golf course or a water park. Blackwater is made for privacy and accommodation of individual desire. Your day WILL start with a smile!!

Room Tip: Try to spend some time just enjoying the character of the room and not just sleeping. There is no TV...

I just finished up a wonderful long weekend in Blackwater at the Iron Horse. What a wonderful experience, great food, peaceful atmosphere, incredible service. The food, in particular was fantastic, especially the baked good and desserts, all of which are baked on the premises. All of the meals were prepared to a very high standard, and service was exceptional. The experience certainly exceeded my expectations. I am looking forward to a return visit in October.

My book club celebrated our getaway dinner here on a Saturday night. We socialized in the parlor with drinks (alcohol and non- alcohol) before dinner. Very imaginative salad and superb steaks and pork chops. The new owners simplified the previously more gourmet menu to fit closer to the authentic nature of the town. it is a winning combination. We actually had local townspeople entertain us with skits, short and funny. This does not happen every night. We all recommend the to-die-for turtle cheesecake, best ever!!

Room Tip: Just ate at restaurant and we recommend you do, too.

We were disappointed in our recent stay at the Iron Horse in Blackwater for our anniversary. When we arrived we waited and waited to no one ever coming to great us (when their brochure by the front door specifically states in it that "you will be greeted upon arrival in our parlor"), so after standing around for 10 minutes or so we went and found someone. After getting checked in we went down for dinner, and even though we were the only people in the restaurant our service was very poor and it took forever, not to mention that the waitress left the room and was not even visible during most of our dinner, so if we needed anything we either waited or had to go find someone. We did not get a good nights rest like expected either due to the fact that a train goes by every 2-3 hours all night, there were not any blinds on the windows (just sheer curtains) and the street light shined directly in the window, and there is not a TV located in any rooms or the commons area. We experienced the same situation the morning of check-out (no one around, having to go locate someone to get breakfast, etc.). While the hotel was very beautiful and most of the food was good, it was not at all like we expected and we did not feel like as a customer we were valued at all.

The quilt shop in Buckner held a retreat at the Iron Horse Hotel. They rea;;y went out of there way moving tables and chairs to accomadate 16 quilters! Tim brought dinners downstairs to see the display Rita Feely had of her crazy quilting and see what all of us was working on. Ther was always plenty of fresh coffee and oh what food we had. Baked chicken (very moist) home made bread peach cobbler oh yes even the salad with blueberries walnuts an just the right amout of dressin! Tim and Debbie make you feel very special as soon as you walk into there home away from home! We all hope to return next year !
