Afternoon tea is one of those meals that we often eschew in the pace of modern life, so it is really nice to find a hostelry who wants to reintroduce the tradition.
Often, afternoon teas are mediocre to say the least, but Beckworth's version of nicely prepared sandwiches (they vary daily) which can even be prepared on gluten-free bread, cakes and scones, with a choice of teas all served on an attractive slate is well worth the typical wait in a queue... actually, unless you know the cycles, you are likely to queue at most times of the day, that despite having a large restaurant and the similar sized Conservatory.
Pleasant staff, enjoyable food, no-rush attitude makes this a worthy detour in the Wellingborough/Kettering area of Northamptonshire... and do not forget the fabulous farmshop as you leave; the butchers is well worth spending time selecting finest quality, local produce.
No bookings, but a worthy winner of the Food Award for Northamptonshire.
