The staff are friendly and happy to help, the food great quality and the drink very reasonable. The rooms are clean and tidy and the beds very comfortable. Free wifi brilliant. the let down is the busy A57 that runs right along the front of some of the rooms and seems non stop, handy for motorway links compete nightmare if haven't slept for 24 hours.

Room Tip: rooms at the back of the hotel are much quieter.

Not good or bad! Not a £50 a night hotel. Lower floors you need to close the curtain all the time, upper floor CR*P shower, tiz your choice. Bar staff very polite and helpful, food very good for the price, I did find an older women very forthright in the restaurant with the younger staff who are only trying to learn. Would I stop here again, NO! Unless the price/room/tv in the room (5 fuzzy channels) are improved.

We held our wedding here on Sept 21st and Wow what a day! The whole day from start to finish was well organised and ran so smoothly Christina did a superb job of organising the whole thing and the duty manager on the day was fantastic! Every tiny detail was just perfect! The room was beautifully decorated and the food was divine! Nothing was too much trouble. All of our guests commented on how lovely the room, the food, the bedrooms and the breakfast were! I could not have asked for a more perfect place to hold our wedding and we will remember it for the rest of our lives! A great big thanks to all of the staff at the Greyhound Hotel (Sporting Lodge Inns) Thank You!

I booked in a hurry, then consulted Trip Advisor. Opinions here seem polarised and I feared the worst.

The worst didn't happen. The hotel is clean, well run and the right price.

Sitting on a roundabout on the busy East Lancs Road the first thing you notice is that the car park is packed. It is obviously very popular and from overhears in the restaurant I am guessing most are contractors of one sort or another working in the Manchester area.

The rooms are looking a little tired, with big bulky TV rather than modern flat screen and some of the most dreadful patterned carpets known to man - a feature of the whole hotel. But as noted, clean enough for all but the most fastidious and well equipped. Mine had a combined Corby Trouser Press / Ironing board. As I only had jeans with me that saw little use.

The restaurant was notable for friendly and efficient service, though to be fair I was late arriving and there were few others around. The food didn't actually star, but it was OK. That said, as elsewhere in the hotel the staff are the stars.

The high spot was spotting a hand-pump with Doom Bar, the Cornish Ale. The low spot was when it was served at a temperature more suited to 'big girls' lagers. TURN THE CHILLER DOWN PLEASE!

Through the night the East Lancs traffic appeared to die down and certainly didn't impinge on my rest.

To sum up: For an unaccompanied business trip where you need somewhere easy to find and park with no hassle at all it ticks the boxes. I wouldn't choose it for a long stay, or for a romantic getaway.

But approach it hoping for Dorchester standards at sub-Travelodge prices and you'll end up being disappointed and posting duff reviews on here.

Good hotel to use as an overnight stay or as a base for a short break to attractions in Manchester area if you don't mind staying a bit out of the way. Rooms are basic but comfortable and modern. Restaurant serves up carvery style meals. Beware the chocolate deserts - extremely chocolaty and very heavy. Work it off in their swimming pool after your meal. Good lively pub attached to hotel whihc shows Sky Sports. There was a wedding party on when I stayed and was worried music would go on into early hours, however it was turned off prior to midnight and a good nights sleep was had by all.

Room Tip: Ask for room facing rear as hotel faces onto dual carraigeway.
