“First RV camping experience”
Reviewed 7 July 2014 via mobile

This was our first RV camping experience (ever) and the SDC Wilderness was a great site for us. The staff (although busy) were very helpful. The pool, playground, restrooms and all facilities were very clean and well-maintained. The hook-ups for the RV all worked great, with no issues. The other campers were courteous and quiet at night. We used the bus to SDC on our 2nd day; and while it was crowded it was very convenient to get to and from the park. Thanks for a great first experience.

What a wonderful place to stay! Friendly staff, clean camp ground and cabins. We stayed in a loft cabin with a group of 6 adults and 3 small children. Only complaint is the screen doors squeaked and and there are no locks on them. The family oriented "Smore" campfire sing-a-long was rained out mid way and moved inside to the game room. Price was great compared to putting us all up in hotels. Loved sitting on the porch in the rockers, wished I was still there.

We stayed at the Wilderness in a tent for 4 nights and very much enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend taking the advice the lady at the desk gave us and drive around to look at the sites before booking. Honestly, most of the designated "tent" sites are either very close to the road or have fairly steep drop-offs around them. We actually opted for a site meant for pop-up campers which was nice because it included electricity and water. It costs a bit more, but you receive a 15% discount off of 2 nights or more if you have a SDC season pass. The only draw-back is that instead of the pea gravel pad, it's regular gray gravel/rocks which can be a bit uncomfortable to sleep on if you don't have enough padding under you. Other than that, it was great! We chose site #99 which was neither close to the road nor any drop-offs and was very close to the bathrooms (handy when you have 4 kids). The bathrooms were very clean and well maintained as where the showers. I loved that there were several shower stalls (around 5, I think), so we never had to wait, and that there was a nice-sized area in each one to where you could dress and undress in privacy. The general store was really nice, also. Huge variety of things.. just about anything you might want/need. Plenty of snack-type foods and cold drinks, bagged ice, lunch meats and bread, frozen TV dinners (there's a microwave available), swimming supplies, camping supplies, toys, souvenirs and more. Complimentary coffee is available to SDC season pass holders. The kids very much enjoyed the pool and I appreciated the laundry room. The shuttle to Silver Dollar City was very convenient. All of the employees and staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. Our family is looking forward to returning soon!

Room Tip: If possible, drive around to see which site suits your needs. If booking online, ask for a site that...

We stayed in one of the cabins and it was clean, comfortable and spacious. The grounds are well kept as are the pool and game room. We will definitely stay here again the next time we're in town. The only thing that could've been better is the WiFi. The signal is weak so Internet access was slow and inconsistent.

The tent area was pretty and wooded but having large rocks dig into yer back THROUGH AN AIR MATTRESS is not fun. the sites are too close together and there is basically no parking available except in an empty campsite. the bathrooms were clean but the mats in the showers KILL YOUR FEET! the pool was nice and the shuttle was convenient but I would stay somewhere else next time

We stayed in C1 "Ma's" cabin. Our three grand kids loved the setting and the atmosphere the cabin offered. However, the place could use a little fixing up and cleaning. The corners had dust bunnies and a few dead beatles scattered around. The gas grill on the back porch had no gas, the burners were rotted out and it was filthy. I understand that these will get greasy with use, but they should be kept in good repair (or removed.) The springs in the main double bed also needed replacing. Squeeky, ratling and both occupents will sink to the middle. The kids had no complaints about the bunk beds. As some have stated, no matter what the website says, there is no wifi. You will have to walk up to the store/desk to check email.

So first off they claim on the website that ALL campsites are on pea gravel, I do not call 3/4 inch gravel pea gravel. Secondly the site they gave us was so small that our tent and truck would not fit as it was on a cliff edge of a big valley. When we asked for another site the lady was very rude but did show us spots that were available on a map and there were a couple that might have been large enough but I have 2 small children and these sites were right next to a major highway. We were there to get away from traffic and our children like to play, not very kid friendly sites. In the end we just left without a refund and went across the road to Compton Ridge where we were treated exceptionally well.
