At first glance SpringHill Suites St. Louis Brentwood (SHS) seems seedier than the three star status it claims, sandwiched as it is between a condominium development and a couple of restaurants. Trying to get through the narrow parking lot when trucks are delivering to the restaurants can be a challenge. Cigarette butts in front of the place and dirty welcome mats over the (also dirty) lobby floor did not impress; hallway vacuuming is not a priority. While the common areas could have used more attention, however, the room was consistently clean.

One’s sense that the place appears to be prematurely worn-out is likely due to the number of kids staying here. My impression over a week is the place caters more to traveling families than business clients. However, if used for a short business trip it does provide a place that is as quiet for sleeping as most other branded hotels.

Check-in was easy and the staff was unfailingly polite througout the week.

SHS is about one mile from I170, I64 and US40; 12 miles to the airport; and less than a mile from the Metro. It is about 10 miles from downtown St. Louis in a St. Louis County bedroom community. It is across the street from a shopping center boasting a Super Wal-Mart, other big box stores and the attendant fried fare chain restaurants that are the bane of frequent business travelers’ waists. Parking is free in an adjacent tower that is reasonably lit at night. There is no security on site but the place is less than a mile from the Brentwood PD; there seemed to be no particular concern about crime here and using common sense would serve you well.

The SHS fitness center is very well-equipped with True machines: three treadmills, an elliptical and a recumbent bike. The elliptical would benefit from a service call based on the squeaking and lose feel of the treads, but you will get a good workout. Each device has a mounted personal TV, and they all worked. Two benches and a set of upscale dumbbells complete the facility. If you swim for fitness you will find the pool is too small and dirty. However, SHS has an agreement with a local gym less than a mile away, where you can swim and use other fitness equipment.

The restaurant is an open area in front of the desk in the Marriott bistro style. Breakfast is free 6-9:30 and is the standard mediocre heated fare one finds at most mid-tier branded hotels. Get there before the kids and it will be reasonably clean and stocked. Vacationing guests tend to homestead at the too-few tables, so you may have to share space with strangers. Alternatively, there are plenty of decent restaurants in the area. There is always coffee in the food area.

The room is large enough for comfort and is reasonably well appointed with a work station and sectional sofa in the sitting room. It was satisfactorily clean on check-in and the housekeepers did a good job of cleaning all surfaces the week I was there. Temperature control is centralized to the sitting room, and the room remained comfortable during my trip, even when the daytime temperature was around 100. A single HD TV serves both rooms moderately well, and provides basic cable and the main HBO channel. Internet is free (wired or wireless) and I experienced no service interruptions during my visit.

If you plan to use the suite to conduct meetings or other business activities, note there is no door between the sleeping area and the sitting room. The king bed was firm throughout with clean sheets and there were no indicators of bedbugs or other vermin. Note to hotel designers: we have many electrical devices and often use our cell phones for alarms. It would be nice to have an outlet accessible from the bed. Except for one desk lamp, all lighting is by ceiling lamp and the illumination is bright to the point of unsettlingly harsh. The absence of table or floor lamps might be another nod to the family nature of the place: fewer things to knock over and break. The refrigerator is much too small for a “suite hotel,” but will hold a few healthy eating alternatives. A microwave is provided. The bathroom boasts a walk-in shower and a toilet, with a sink outside but in an alcove not readily visible from the sitting room. All of the plumbing drained well.

This hotel is not a good value in my opinion. Save $50 per night and go to a lower end chain (or pay up $30 to get a true htel suite.

This hotel is very "family" friendly so prepare for a lot of kids. This hotel cuts corners wherever it can. Sink outside of the Shower/bath room and thus over carpet. No fan in the bathroom. Poor lighting. One TV which was positioned such that the view from the sitting room or bedroom was far from optimal. No restaurant or room service (though there is a great restaurant called "Tastes" within easy walking distance). Too, I like a firm matress but the

I give this hotel 2 stars only because it was clean and there was a 24 hour shop on the pemise.

The service was good and the staff very helpful. The rooms were clean and were large in size. Parking was very easy, they have a garage next to the hotel. The hotel is located in a very nice area, just off the highway. Several good resturants are close by. Their free breakfast is very limited, however its fine if you just want ceral or fruit. Would stay again.

We stayed at the Spring Hill Suites by Marriott in Brentwood for one night while we were in town for a wedding. We booked this hotel through Expedia and asked for early check in. We arrived around noon on a Friday and were immediately checked in even though the hotel appeared quite busy.

The lobby is nice and decorated in a very modern style. Our room was on the second floor; the room was very tastefully decorated and was very spacious. The bathroom was also quite large and the vanity and mirror were separate from the toilet/shower area which nicely accommodates two people getting ready at the same time. There was a nice closet, a decent sized couch with a chaise at the end, a desk with an office chair, and also a nice flat screen LG TV. The bed was very comfortable and the hotel was quiet at night. The Wi-Fi worked great in the room and in the lobby.

They offer a well appointed breakfast buffet in the price of the room. There were several waffle making stations, a coffee bar, juice machine, a fridge with milk and yogurt, cereal, muffins, bagels, breads, oatmeal, eggs, and sausage. It was very nice and quite good. Check out was painless and quick.

This hotel is located in a very nice part of town and has a lot of shopping and dining nearby. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who needs a nice place to stay in the St. Louis area.

I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. This was my first time staying at a SpringHill Suites brand. The decor was clean & classic, however it would have been nice if the hotel has some holiday decorations. It did not feel festive in the hotel during my visit for the holiday. The sound from the hallway, room next door and room above was kind of noisy. One night the people above were so noisy at like 3am. Was glad to hear from the front desk that they were checking out. The breakfast was a nice touch, but the food does not stay hot, infact it was not really warm at all. But it was free!!! Like that the wireless internet is also free!!! When I return to St. Louis, I would book this hotel again, but will request a 6th floor corner room on the non-Humane Society side.
